A Covington Police officer narrowly averted a head-on collision with a vehicle driving against traffic on the Collins Boulevard overpass early Sunday morning, a near accident that led to the arrest of three occupants in the vehicle who were "highly intoxicated," authorities said. State Police arrested the three suspects in the vehicle shortly after the incident at 2:40 a.m., according to Covington Police.
The Covington officer involved in the incident was about to cross the overpass at Claiborne Hill when he observed a white, 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck traveling northbound on the southbound lane of the two-lane bridge. The officer as able to react fast enough to avoid a head-on collision and swerved into a barrier leading to the overpass as the truck barreled past him, according to a press release from Covington Police.
The patrolman turned around and chased the pick up truck, finally getting it to stop at Collins Boulevard and 32nd Street. Since it is a policy of the Covington Police Department not to work wrecks that involve members of its department, State Troopers were called to investigate. Covington Police officers held the three suspects until the troopers arrived. The police car involved in the incident sustained minor damages, authorities said.
Covington Police said they discovered the three occupants of the vehicle were "highly intoxicated" and that neither the driver of the pick-up truck nor the two passengers had a Louisiana drivers license, according to the police press release. The only identification the three suspects produced was identification cards from Honduras. The vehicle was registered in Louisiana and had insurance coverage, police said.
Witnesses told police that when the pick-up truck left a restaurant located on the south side of the overpass, it turned into the southbound lane going in a northerly direction, according to the press release.

In all reality we don't have that many foreign born Hispanics around here.
Illegal aliens DIA* PING
(driving in America*)
*Drunk, no license, no insurance
Drunk, no license, no insurance
Yeah, and no reason anyone in Washington, D.C. can perceive not to grant them amnesty, food stamps, housing assitance, legal aid, free medical care, et cetera ad infinitum.
We have more than you think. They stick to themselves in certain neighborhoods, but you can see bunches of them shopping at the Walmart stores.
I know that bridge and I try to avoid it during rush hour.
Not as many as I’ve seen in other parts of the Country. The majority of the landscaping crews around where I live are still all locals. Same with the construction crews.
I see a lot. 30,000,000 illegals have to live somewhere.
The overpass in question is a two way single lane bridge over a river and lower street. It’s a traffic nightmare.
3 to 2 to single lane all within a few hundred yards. Sucks.
>>The vehicle was registered in Louisiana and had insurance coverage, police said.<<
A traffic nightmare it is.
As soon as I saw S-10 I thought “It’s probably Hispanics.” Why do so many Hispanics own S-10s?
Because the S-10 is reliable and easy to work on. Hispanics also like the older Nissan pickups for the same reason.

Been there, was a victim of that.
