US Repeals Propaganda Ban, Spreads Government-Made News to Americans

For decades, a so-called anti-propaganda law prevented the U.S. government's mammoth broadcasting arm from delivering programming to American audiences. But on July 2, that came silently to an end with the implementation of a new reform passed in January. The result: an unleashing of thousands of hours per week of government-funded radio and TV programs for domestic U.S. consumption in a reform initially criticized as a green light for U.S. domestic propaganda efforts. So what just happened?

Until this month, a vast ocean of U.S. programming produced by the Broadcasting Board of Governors such as Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks could only be viewed or listened to at broadcast quality in foreign countries. The programming varies in tone and quality, but its breadth is vast: It's viewed in more than 100 countries in 61 languages. The topics covered include human rights abuses in Iran; self-immolation in Tibet; human trafficking across Asia; and on-the-ground reporting in Egypt and Iraq.

The restriction of these broadcasts was due to the Smith-Mundt Act, a long standing piece of legislation that has been amended numerous times over the years, perhaps most consequentially by Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright. Fulbright was no friend of VOA and Radio Free Europe, and moved to restrict them from domestic distribution, saying they "should be given the opportunity to take their rightful place in the graveyard of Cold War relics."

Or something more sinister?

While I agree with quite a few who already claim we pretty much have an administration of propaganda media, how much worst could it be?

Well, we're about to find out. The problem with what just happened as I view it is the law expired and in its place under an EO(?) from a few years ago a new government information system just took over. Undoing this change in the future will be the stumbling block, it won't be undone.

If you have ever followed the disease threads on FR you will notice many of these countries use propaganda to control their people during a crisis. The information given is often misleading ...if not outright lies. So ...when the government orders an evacuation of an entire village and people are loaded on buses to some hellhole of a refugee camp...it is essentially a death ride.

Look at the Trayvon Martin propaganda as documents are know being leaked that the government ginned up the case up. Government propaganda...how much worse could it be? We're only beginning to find out.

While you and I see through the façade, there's 47% of the population or more if you count the illegals, that will follow the propaganda in 'lock-step.' Government propaganda...how much worse could it be? We're only beginning to find out.

We're watching the formation institutionalization of a regime. I wrote a piece here on FR a while back that clearly indicated all these scandals with the IRS etc. were nothing but the regime demonstrating how they intend to 'do business' with the American people. The Democrats don't care they broke the law, breached our trust, or the Constitution. The sooner more people come to realize that the better.

The enemy within is the Democrat Party. They don't care about the Constitution or the rule of current republican law, because none of that is their goal.

Isn't it amazingly convenient that black protests/race riots and Patriots all feel the time to act is now? Government propaganda...how much worse could it be? We're only beginning to find out.

The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 that legalized domestic propaganda was part of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act which was passed overwhelmingly by the GOP controlled House.

What, you expect them to read everything they pass? They are busy! Fundraising takes a tremendous amount of their time. :)

Call it what it is: Big Brother, soon to be beamed into every household in America 24/7/365 and eventually, required by law.

We are now emulating Eastern-occupied Europe of the late 1950’s. Not quite Marxist, not quite Republican, since the opposition has yet not been purged through pogroms, and the REAL fencing and walls have been too well scrutinized by the Republican side of the country. The Stasi are being more fully emplaced, but for now, still wearing the old national uniforms, so as to keep everyone comfortable in their thoughts of internal safety.

My local AM station that carries Mark Levin has more than enough government paid propaganda. Virtually every station break is filled wall-to-wall with PSA’s plugging various Federal programs that both The Great One and I despise.

>>The media lies mostly by omission. By far the biggest lies it told during the Zimmerman trial is what it didn’t report. That’s their MO.<<

That’s the key to social engineering. Control the conversation and you control the mind. FReepers only debate what is written in the articles, not facts that are omitted from them.

We need to have the Tparty organize into secessions and off-shorizing states and counties from these fubar entanglements and indiscretion against the American people in DC.
