Asiana to sue San Francisco TV station over names

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Asiana announced Monday that it will sue a San Francisco TV station that it said damaged the airline's reputation by using bogus and racially offensive names for four pilots on a plane that crashed earlier this month in San Francisco.

-------

Asiana has decided to sue KTVU-TV to "strongly respond to its racially discriminatory report" that disparaged Asians, Asiana spokeswoman Lee Hyomin said. She said the airline will likely file suit in U.S. courts.

She said the report seriously damaged Asiana's reputation. Asiana decided not to sue the NTSB because it said it was the TV station report, not the U.S. federal agency that damaged the airline's reputation. Lee did not elaborate.

KTVU-TV did not immediately reply to emails sent by The Associated Press seeking comment.

Really? I would have thought your pilots flying a Boeing 777 into the ground was what damaged your reputation.

At least the spokeswoman wasn't named Man Lee Ho.

KTVU is a FOX affiliate. If the station contained any hint of
a conservative POV then do you think they might be linking
it to FoxNews? Likely.

Probably Asiana Airlines realized that playing the race card might divert attention away from the apparent ineptitude of their pilots, and the implication that their pilot training standards are insufficient. Of course all the broadcast shows is that TV stations can fall for crude pranks. The TV station's actions don't reflect on Asiana at all, but certainly show that the TV station's staff is clueless.

Overall it seems like a foolish tactic for the airline, it simply highlights the real issue which is how could commercial pilots botch a day VFR landing in nearly perfect weather so badly.

Evidently Asiana doesn’t understand the “Rule of Holes,” which postulates that when you are already in a hole, stop digging. The truth is that the Korean airlines (both of them) appear to have serious deficiencies in their pilot training and qualification. Better hope they make a buck on KTVU because they are going to need the money to pay off on the passenger suits against them. My bet is that at the end of the day, Asiana will go out of business. I know that I wouldn’t fly on either of therm.

Is it conservatives that are actually getting punked incorrectly by Dems given this info from wiki?
the station is owned by the Cox Media Group subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, making it the largest Fox affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by the network.

The transliteration of the Korean alphabet to English is not the high point of my linguist talents. I’ll try harder. (At least they remembered to put the wheels down.)

” Ho ree doubre fuk.” is right!

If that division of RipCord Airlines actually files suit, their entire flight crew training history will be examined. Then, all the world will understand why America, Canada, and Europe made those Asian airlines get training from Boeing and Airbus back in the 1990’s.

Collectively, Asian airlines are perhaps best seen as divisions of a parent holding company called “AIR CHANCE”.

My favorite part of the report:

The National Transportation Safety Board has apologized, saying a summer intern erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew....Neither the station nor the NTSB commented on where the names originated.

Just heard this from the You Tube link, and Todd Schnitt replayed it on his show right now. I still can't beleive what I heard. This sounds like an old Sat Night Live gag when Chevy Chase and Jane Curtin did their Weekend Update routines. We place yellow ribbons all over the place to show support for our troops. We wear red ribbons for AIDS awareness, pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness, puzzle pieces ribbons for autism awareness, what color ribbons do we wear for STUPID awareness??!
