Drum sees worrisome long-term declines in income, employment, and the share of national income going to workers.Drum may see those things, but they are not caused by technology. They are a result of government regulations and insurance requirements that are creating incentives to do away with labor.
In a free economic climate, technology creates productivity improvements that produce more capital and spur investment in new lines of production. In our current economic situation, businesses are mechanizing current production to save money but aren't investing in expansion.
