Marco Rubio stumbles
Politico ^ | July 17,2013 | MIKE ALLEN and JIM VANDEHEI

Posted on 07/17/2013 7:05:41 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Todd Harris, the usually gregarious consultant to Sen. Marco Rubio, uncharacteristically resisted eight days of calls and emails seeking his thoughts for this column. When he finally did reply, the answer was: “to be honest, another story about Marco and immigration is not high on Christmas list!!”

No wonder. The very issue Rubio (and Harris) thought would be a game-changing, legacy-builder looks like a big liability for the Florida senator, at least right now. In the process, the self-confident presidential hopeful suddenly looks wobbly, even a little weak, as he searches for what’s next.

Rubio spent six months working over Senate Republicans only to get stiffed by 70 percent of them. He has gone underground on the issue ever since, ducking reporters on Capitol Hill.

Some top conservatives are questioning Rubio’s judgment on immigration, arguing that he was “played” by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats in the Senate’s Gang of Eight immigration working group.

Rubio refused to be interviewed for this column. But POLITICO’s Senate specialist, Manu Raju, cornered him in the Capitol on Wednesday to get his take.

In background conversations, Rubio allies spin elaborate theories about how he might be threading the perfect political needle, getting credit for winning Senate passage without owning the responsibility for the complexities of implementation – and certain rage from some parts of the right — if it actually became law.

The adviser added that while the Senate bill “wasn’t what we would have produced if we’d written our own bill, it is a lot better than it would have been without Sen. Rubio’s involvement. Democrats made big concessions.

“Stumbles”? Good grief, the guy’s career went up like the Hindenburg. Oh, the humanity.

All he had to do was to look at how eager the Rats were to get it passed to know he was a sucker.

The worst part of the whole charade was the constant lying about border security. "We grant amnesty FIRST, and then there are these triggers, see... If Homeland Security doesn't come up with a PLAN for border security in 5 years, why, then - - oh yes, THEN - - there will be a COMMISSION appointed, yessirree, Bob! We are not fooling around!"

I couldn't tell if the guy was freaking joking or he actually thought people would buy that crap.

“I specifically recall meetings where advisors and key allies told him that joining the Gang of Eight would ‘destroy’ him,” said the adviser, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to describe internal negotiations.

Those advisors deserve a raise - - they were dead right.

Marco Rubio will never rebound politically from being led and taken in by the Democrat low life in the Senate unless he comes froward and clearly states that no illegal immigrant will ever have a path to USA citizenship and voting rights, period. That is “His” stumbling block. Now.....Illegals can become permanent residents, with legal work permits, but never citizens. Their children, if born here are already citizens....and children that were brought here by their parents or relatives should be given a path to citizenship, after they reach the age of twenty-one. The senate passed bill is literally a joke, with all its pork and no real security teeth. Rubio can regain his setback, if he actively works with the Republican congress to come up with a workable, fair immigration bill that never rewards criminal illlegal immigrants, period!!! He needs to come forth immediately, and clearly state his vote in favor of the Senate immigration bill was a big mistake, and...he withdraws his support from that legislation.

I know.....I acted in haste and anger.

I have called his office to let them know the depth of betrayal he has caused to his constituents here in Florida and will not be forgotten.

I guess I was being soft hearted trying to give him the benefit of the doubt....You point out some things that I have followed and forgotten about (information overload).

In that light, can’t disagree at all

Understood, friend. I don't think we've been through a similar five year period in our whole history. Certainly not in our lifetimes.

I don't know anyone who's not feeling overwhelmed by the constant onslaught of treason and deliberate dismantling of our beloved country.
