UC Panel Names Muslim As Student Regent Sadia Saifuddin, 21, a UC Berkeley student leader, is the first Muslim to be named student regent. She had faced opposition for advocating divesting university funds from Israel, but prevailed with all but one vote.
Sadia Saifuddin was named the next student regent at the UC Board of Regents meeting Wednesday in San Francisco. She said she would work to improve financial aid and the campus climate for students of all backgrounds. (Eric Risberg / Associated Press / July 17, 2013)
By Larry Gordon July 17, 2013 SAN FRANCISCO On the eve of confirming Janet Napolitano as the next university president, UC regents on Wednesday faced the type of difficult financial, ethnic and political questions that await the U.S. secretary of Homeland Security at the 10-campus UC system.
The regents voted to raise tuition for graduate nursing programs while freezing fees for nearly all other students, and they appointed the next student regent, despite opposition from some Jewish and pro-Israel groups angered by her past advocacy of divesting university funds from Israel.
UC Berkeley student government leader Sadia Saifuddin, 21, the first Muslim to be student regent, won approval of all the regents except for Richard Blum, who abstained. Blum said he was concerned that her nomination to be the student voice on the board was too divisive and that he didn't know enough about her.

Time for the Jewish alums to withhold all donations.
In a process that started 30 years ago, campuses as centers for intellectual discourse will now become spring boards for antisemitic (Israel) protests. What about Tibet, what about northern Cyprus and the Turks, what about the slaughter in Syria? No calls for humanitarian ships to dock at Latakiya, Syria? Like they have no other cause to champion?
No need for discourse or debate, divest from the ONLY Western, Democratic, Liberal, open, educated and pluralistic society in the Middle East not in some sort of a civil war at the moment.
Divest from a country of innovation and technological prowess and know-how that shares the West's values.
On the other hand, ignore Palestinian terror, Arab civil war, Islamic beheadings and general Arabic/Islamic mayhem on the planet causing starvation, refugee movements and Jihad.
The PLO controls much of the West Bank (of the Jordan river), they wasted billions of dollars in aid, are at war with HAMAS in Gaza and do not want peace with Israel. Their mantra is OCCUPATION, OCCUPATION and OCCUPATION and oh, I forgot, tear down the Apartheid wall, right? The minute they stop suicide bombings against Israelis and negotiate in good faith, the wall will come down and peace will happen. Till then, divest from Israel? The ONLY normal country in that region?
OK, so let's create ANOTHER failed Arab/Muslim nation state next door to Israel? Get back to your books students!
Sad sad sad sad sad sad sad and sad!
(They couldn’t appoint a Muslim student who doesn’t have such an anti_Semitic record!? Did they have to select another pro-jihadist hater?)
UC already has antiSemitism problems ... at Berkeley and Irvine campuses especially, with pro-jihad or other Islamic pro-terrorista students (and fellow haters or useful idiots carrying faculty ID cards) already intimidating and threatening Jewish and Christian students. Some of which are now afraid to enroll or take classes at Cal. And California’s liberal political establishment is just fine with this deplorable situation, and does nothing to remedy it.
Sad sad sad. America is going right down the sewer.
and there’s no reason why it has to be this way, other than the simple fact that we’re being sold out
Time for all non Sharia alums to stop donating. I’ll be the first.
In a world of selfhating jews, Soros at the top of the list, there will be those who will continue to cut off their nose inspite of thier face and contribute in the name of diversity
