The Governor of Iowa's SUV was clocked at 84 MPH. A senior member of Iowa's police force called it in, but the SUV wasn't pulled over. He complained about the incident. He's now been fired.P Special Agent in Charge Larry Hedlund observed the SUV of Governor Terry Branstad going nearly 90 MPH on the highway. He was in a state owned vehicle, but called for an on-duty officer to pursue. Another officer clocked the SUV at 84 MPH, but didn't pull them over once he saw that another trooper was driving.P Hedlund complained to superiors about the incident and how it could have endangered public safety. Soon after, Hedlund was put on paid leave for an alleged rules violation, that being the use of a state-owned vehicle while off duty.P Hedlund was just fired after a two and a half month investigation this week. He was part of the Iowa police for 25 years. Hedlund says that the firing definitely had nothing to do with the alleged rules violation and was absolutely about calling for a pursuit of the Governor.P His lawyer said that he will appeal.P The Governor's office is reviewing the case and is also working on scheduling so they don't have to speed in the future. Seriously. That is a thing that was said.
The only good cop is the one who shoots your dog....
Party affiliation missing. Democrat?
Selective enforcement of the law is the first sign of tyranny.
Branstad is a republican. Most police are union. I smell a rat and it is not the governor.
No, Terry Branstad is a Republican. He was the governor for many years, left office and then came back recently.
Nope.
Ok
“Selective enforcement of the law is the first sign of tyranny.”
Wisely observed and well stated.
Both parties are full of corrupt elites.
I seem to recall a similar incident involving a governor of the opposite party which ended in a crash which unfortunately did not end said governor’s life (although supposedly it was close), since he went on to graduate to the Dreaded Private Sector, in which he separated a number of private investors from their hard-earned wealth. May God damn him!
Welcome to living in a fascist nation. It sucks...
80% of the cars in the fast lane on the interstate go 80 or above. This is excessive speed at all in a rural state.
Not too many years ago Ed Rendell’s driver here in PA was going down the turnpike at 100.
In New Jersey John Corzine was seriously injured in a high speed accident while heading between engagements.
Politicians speed.....
That would be the dishonorable Jon Corzine, former rat governor of the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.
The speed limit on Iowa interstates should probably be 100. It could be if people would pay attention to what they were doing, understood lane discipline, etc.
80% of the cars in the fast lane on the interstate go 80 or above. This is NOT excessive speed at all in a rural state.
Absolutely.
However we always need to look at the whole picture carefully.
Is this a Republican above the law elitist governor, or a Democrat union thug cop who would cover for a Rat governor that does worse?
Both are selective enforcement, and I want more info before making a call.
Ok, governors shouldn’t speed, and state troopers driving governors shouldn’t speed. Sets a bad example. But what highway was he on? I was on the PA Turnpike this last weekend and the wife pointed out that I was going 85. And I was, just blending in with the (very sparse, at an early hour) traffic. On a good road, in good weather, in daylight, in a car that is stable and doesn’t shake, rattle, or roll at that speed, it’s easy to creep up to 85 without even realizing it.
