I got followed in department stores as a teen, too. Betcha just about EVERYONE has no matter what color.

A couple of years ago, I entered, left, and re-entered a well-known department store several times, on each visit searching through stacks of khaki trousers to find the size and specs I wanted and then leaving to consult with mrs riverdawg on my prospective purchase, who was shopping at another store nearby. I must have attracted the attention of store security, who were very visibly (to me) tracking my movements and communicating audibly with each other about my whereabouts in the store. Finally, I bought two pairs of trousers and pointedly waved good-bye to the store's inept loss-reduction goons.
