Funny, they should come to California to see how it’s really done. they don’t issue special plates, but any member of law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, politicians, etc. have their license plates removed for the state database used to issue red light tickets and tickets for driving on toll roads. Probably hundreds of thousands of cars in Cali and millions in ticket revenue.

To be clear, these exempt plates appear to be normal private plates. Many vehicles with plates marked OFFICIAL (thousands of city, state, university, and other vehicles) are also exempt from most traffic camera ticketing.

A very useful project would be a public database of each and every single traffic camera in the US, as reported and confirmed by citizens. Might come in handy someday.

Seems like a huge security risk for undercover cops. I actually wrote out three ways to use this to sniff out undercovers (two didn’t require any hacking or direct access to the database), but redacted them.
