Some suburbs pass assault weapon restrictions, others dissuaded by gun owners
Chicago Tribune ^ | 21 july 2013 | Robert McCoppin

Morton Grove made international news in 1981 when it passed the most restrictive handgun ban in the nation's history.

The prohibition remained on the books until 2008, when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a similar law in Washington, D.C., prompting leaders in the near north suburb to repeal their ban, with little controversy.

Now, facing a state-imposed deadline, the Morton Grove Village Board voted late Thursday to outlaw assault weapons carrying 31 or more bullets — reflecting a desire to step more gingerly around an explosive issue.

As suburbs Winnetka and Dolton joined Morton Grove in adopting last-minute gun restrictions, the tally of Chicago-area local governments to pass such laws before Friday's deadline was up to more than 15. State lawmakers had given local governments a 10-day window, starting when they overrode Gov. Pat Quinn's veto of the state's new concealed carry law, to enact local assault weapons ordinances.

Ban assault weapons that hold 31 or more bullets

Daisy BB guns? Its the gun I know of that holds more than 31 bullets.

Of course, we must translate for the media and Leftist politicians. We presume its a magazine ban, having nothing to do with the firearm, but we would need to read the law, to determine if it bans the combination of firearm and magazine or just the magazines.

I would like to see suburbs try to impose restrictions on speech or religion. You know, technically "Congress" is not allowed to do such things, but the Constitution does not specifically forbid suburbs from taking away your First Amendment rights.

Second Amendment is different: "the right shall not be infringed". Not by the President, not by Congress, not by the state, not by the suburb.

When are people going to wake up and realize how much slavery we suffer under?

The leaders of these suburbs need to lead by example.

Ban all guns for themselves.

Put a big sign of their yard that their house has no guns and they are unarmed.

And that no armed neighbor will come to help them.

Should work well being so close to Chicago.

I finally figured out why our President keeps fanning the flames of racial animosity in this country. I believe he wants to get members of the black community so agitated about a WHITE hispanic killing a BLACK thug that racial violence will explode.

When blacks start killing whites the way blacks kill blacks in America’s big cities then Obama is betting that the majority of white people will start demanding gun control. He’s betting that white people will actually ask for gun control once armed black gangbangers stop shooting each other and start shooting anyone that doesn’t look like Obama’s son.

Obama is trying to return us to the days when the NRA was for gun control and getting guns out of the hands of the Black Panthers (see link below).

http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/409192893/m/8870064992001

When a full scale race war breaks out in America then Obama can swoop in, Deus Ex Machina, and get what he’s always wanted— a ban on handguns and all semi-automatic weapons.

Shotguns trump assault rifles for most defenders

Drum Magazines can be purchased for a lot of different guns.

Is the rifle forbidden if it accepts a 50 round magazine but you don’t own the larger capacity drum?

That may be what Obama is hoping to do, but I think I would argue that once the internal war starts, and once traditionalist Americans pick up the gun to defend their way of life, they will not stop -- but will in fact increase -- their efforts when the government tries a crackdown.

I have long said this: Obama wants to destroy the country. Yes, imposing permanent tyranny is one way. But it would equally suit his needs to begin a race war, to begin a civil war, and shake this country for years, kill millions, and destroy our infrastructure -- and ultimately for him to lose. It wouldn't really matter. The destruction would have been accomplished. He doesn't have to win. He just needs to kick off the conflagration.

That is why he is so very dangerous. He's not afraid to lose. Because that is also a win.

For the most part, this is just last minute thrashing about by people who are ignorant and scared.

In several generations, they had gun culture pretty much wiped from their family culture, so to them, guns are black magic. But, with a return of legal guns, familiarity will again breed, if not contempt, then indifference.

More will be persuaded when their crime rates start to drop.

Sigh. NO.

This was discussed a few weeks ago at length on FR.

There are various Youtube videos showing the difference between a shotgun and other weapons for self defense.

Shotgun recoils more than many rifles and handguns.

Shotgun in close quarters, depending on ammo and person using it, more likely to harm friendlies.

Are you Joe Biden?

Their are two alternative CORRECT spellings of the name of the Illinois antigun suburb: Moron Grove, and Morton Grave.

Here's some serious egg on the faces of Illinois democlowns.

After a bunched-up panty push by all of the Chicago dems over the states override of Quinn's veto on CCW a ten day window was allowed for communities to enact their own gun-grab.

In an opinion piece in today's Q-C Dispatch-Argus the bottom line was:

"...fewer than 20 municipalities that rushed to enact a restriction within 10 days allowed by the state's new concealed carry gun legislation. That's out of 1,300 municipalities around the state..."

The dems are trying to spin this as fear of the NRA but the arguments are pretty well rebuffed.

Link below.

Yeah, like I want to shoot my neighbor instead of the perp. You can have your rifles, handguns etc, because you live a long distance from me, well beyond the reach of your stray bullet.

Those of us in the country know better, and care about our neighbors.

“...When blacks start killing whites the way blacks kill blacks in America’s big cities then...the majority of white people will start.....”

Defending themselves, their families and their homes with every firearm they can lay their hands on.

If Obama & Co want general race war, then their bro’s & hoodies’ will find there is a rifle behind every blade of grass.

“I am offended as a black person that whites regard me as a threat” will be changed into:

“I be scared that every white person I see be packin’ & want go do a Trayvon on me. Sheeeeeit!!!!”

Regarding the link you posted, read the comments below the original post. The person who posted the NRA story is lambasted by other members for race baiting among other things.

I think the actual target is 30 round magazines for AR-15s.

One up the spout plus 30.

A second thing to look at is Calico Firearms. 50 and 100 round magazines on 9 mm rifles and pistols.

You can 100 round mags for AKs. Usually top out at 20-30 rounds though. Sounds like he's wanting to talk tough while dealing with reality.

My point being that some guns have integral magazines, while some have removable magazines.

The article reads like they are only speaking about integral magazines. BB guns are the only guns I know of with integral mag capacities greater than 10.
