... The EPA applies such strict standards to old industrial sites that force a prospective new user of the land to clean it up to pristine condition ... It's a long time since my Insurance days but a lot of Insurance companies are on the hook for most industrial sites polluted from big industry. Environmental insurance is such that it doesn't expire when the company closes shop and drops the coverage. It's perpetual for many many years for damages done to the environment during the period of coverage. Of course that's excluding insurance companies that dodge the bill through the corporate shell game and political payoffs.

2) Detroit is facing $20 billion in debt and unfunded liabilities. That breaks down to more than $25,000 per resident. Before we get to feeling all jubilant about that number we must remember that we all owe the federal gubmint something like $50,000 or more per resident.

Yep - and gives birth to an idea on how to turn the left's class-warfare narrative back in on itself. Challenge all those high profile demonstrators and complainers at every turn, incessantly. Make them have to explain themselves in front of the low-info crowd. Hilarity should ensue.

This is what happens when you hand over your automobile and electronics manufacturing base, first to the Japanese and years later, the rest of what was left of our economy, over to China. You've got your causes and effects backwards.
An economy, no matter what its lat-long, must earn its keep in the global marketplace. If it isn't producing what somebody wants, then it will go to hell. That is how the cookie crumbles.
In an effort to secure votes, the Democrat Party has long striven to repeal the rule of the marketplace via law. God damn them and their RINO collaborators! Fortunately, their quest is impossible. Detroit must be allowed to hit bottom. Hard! It is a cancer on the republic, a boil that must be lanced. It must serve as an example of what happens when you are low information and turn out.

Never in any story about the “bankruptcy” of Detroit does the author(s) mention the facts about liberals controlling Detroit for more than 70 years and every City in the US that is about to follow Detroit to the Federal bankruptcy Court is also controlled by liberals and the bankruptcy is the result of liberal (Obama) policies.
Imagine that!

When you let Democrats run things for too long, you get Detroit.

“Detroit is a microcosm of government and socialist policies working as intended.”
Actually, it is a microcosm of government and socialist policies working as they inevitably always do, despite the continued delusions of the left.
