is it the system ... or is it the lack of a viable conservative candidate?

with 20/20 hindsight, whom were we supposed to nominate in 88 92 96 00 08 12
Kemp did not get serious early enough in 88
in 92, Buchanan could have knocked out Bush, but he was not capable of getting 50% at a convention.
in 96, ditto. Dole could have been knocked out, but Pat and Forbes weren’t going to get it. Somebody new likely would have jumped in. Maybe even Kemp.
In 00, there was a serious race between bush and mccain. Who’s fault is that?
ditto 08, Romney-McCain.
ditto 12, Romney vs the field.

Since 88, which true conservative was supposed to be POTUS who was stopped by the process? If anyone is to blame, blame the GOP Governors Association for giving us lemons like Bush Romney. They lined up behind them early .... abolish the Governors Association.

The candidates have sucked but that’s a separate problem, and a bigger one.

I know the current system is broken because my first choice is always eliminated before the primaries are half over. Last time around I wanted Herman Cain, for instance. Are you suggesting that Delaware vote first?

“I hada lib friend in law school who was an advocate of election by lottery. I scoffed at the time, but given what we’ve gotten in the last 25 years I’m beginning to wonder.”

Actually, William F. Buckley was famously quoted as preferring to be ruled by the first 435 names in the Boston phone book than Congress.

The problem is actually conservatives. I propose a conservative secondary, a process that eliminates all the primary bickering and lambasting that results in no conservative elected by the primary.

Conservatives disagree about everything in such a manner that there is no cohesion, no strength of purpose. It is all wasted in preprimary argumentation. To be an effective political force, conservative strength must be focused.

No open Primaries would work.
