Vandal Targets Prius Cars in Arlington
NBC Washington ^ | 7/22/2013

Posted on 07/23/2013 4:30:05 AM PDT by markomalley

More than a dozen people spread throughout north and south Arlington woke up Monday morning with slashed car tires, and the vandal had a pretty specific target.

Someone punctured the tires of Priuses parked overnight on driveways, apartment parking lots and the street. Police found 15 Prius cars flat. They also got a Smart car.

Police say they found fingerprints consistent with someone leaning on the car while cutting the tires.

...the tires of Priuses...

Does this mean that the plural of "prius" is not "prii"?

My brother had a co-worker who was always crowing about her Prius. He would pull out a photo of his Jeep Commanche towing a broken down bus and ask her if her little Pious could do that.

the Prius commercial is worse than nails on a blackboard. Worst commercial on tv.

No, the worst commercial on tv is the Gerber Life Grow Up Plan (insurance), which has remained unchanged for the past two or three years and runs at least twice an hour, day or night. It has horrible writing and even worse acting.

Thank you for listening. /rant

Toyota (and Goodyear) want you use low rolling resistance tires,

Low resistance, high-center of gravity with all those batteries, a recipe for disaster on curvy roads. Sticky high-resistance tires are great for racing and making through curves. Gas mileage not so great, but fun on high speed romps.

I admit that one is obnoxious. Almost as bad. But it hasn't been repeated near as relentlessly.

A simple answer would have been fine. Save your rude responses for DU.

Back in the middle of the last century, when I was still in school, I learned that an engine was a device that could convert a fuel into physical energy (rotary motion, torque etc)

A motor converts one form of energy to another, electricity, hydraulic pressure, moving water. So a windmill, water-wheel, hydroelectric turbine, electric motor, hydraulic motor and so on are actual motors.

Piston engines and turbines burn fuel and actually have fire inside of them, creating pressure, which is then converted to rotary motion.

The steam engine is sort of an assembly, if you take the firebox and boiler as part of the equation, it’s an engine. If the flywheel and pistons were in one location and the steam were maybe a byproduct of something else, like a geyser or geothermal heat, I guess that would make it a steam motor.
