Family rescued by George Zimmerman from car accident cancels press conference in fear of “blowback”

A terrible moral dilemma. Hold a presser to vouch for the man who rescued you at a moment when he could really use the public support? Or stay out of the line of fire from vigilante lunatics bent on exacting “justice for Trayvon”?

What’s a couple with two small children to do?

The Gerstles were expected to hold a press conference today at the office of Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara, but cancelled a few hours before it was supposed to take place…

“The family called because they wanted to address the media. I knew that if we did it in an organized way, it would help them get back to a normal life.. But they called today and said they were more worried about blow back from saying anything that would be favorable to George, and decided they did not want to do any media,” O’Mara said.

The lawyer said that when he spoke to the Gerstles “their voices were trembling” and that they feared saying anything positive about Zimmerman “would be toxic.”…

Zimmerman “should be [armed] given the threats against him,” O’Mara said. He added, “If I were him I would leave” the country.

The most amazing thing to me about the rescue is that he was still in Sanford days after the verdict. I figured he and his defense team had devised a plan long ago to move him to Canada or Mexico or parts unknown in the event of an acquittal. He wouldn’t be “safe” there either necessarily, but the effort to track him down and get to him would be prohibitive for all but the most insistent nuts. As it is, I wonder if he’s thinking he can ride out the storm by lying low for a year or two, until most people have forgotten, and then quietly re-emerge somewhere in the U.S. I think he’s making a mistake.

Incidentally, is there an agency (or a charity) at either the state or federal level that provides security for high-profile criminal defendants upon release or acquittal? I’m not thinking about that for Zimmerman specifically, just in general. O.J. could have used it, I’m sure; so could Casey Anthony. I think they’re both guilty as sin, and maybe O.J.’s a special case because he could afford to pay for his own protection, but it seems weird to discharge a defendant from court on grounds that they’re “free” to go when they’re facing hundreds or thousands of death threats with little professional help in thwarting them. National media holds these people out, sometimes rightly and sometimes wrongly, as monsters and then they’re left to fend for themselves against a public that despises them. Is that their idea of “rough justice”? I’m not sure prison wouldn’t have been safer for Zimmerman.

I wonder if they were paid a visit and by whom. I wonder how much $ they gave them.

Zimmerman needs to sue everyone, get his money and leave the country.

How sad we cannot celebrate heroism if the hero is a ‘White Hispanic’. The culture is rotting from the top. Evil is deified and good is denigrated. I am sick for my country.

George Zimmerman saved that man’s whole family yet he can’t bring himself to stand up and publicly thank & support him. Probably voted for O; in fact I’d bet on it. What a coward.

Shannon, the man has a wife and children. There are times in our lives as men, we have to stuff what we would like to do, and remember who comes first. That man’s duty is to his family. I’m not going to fault the guy at all.

In his heart, that man is gratefull. At the scene, I’ll bet he made it very clear how he felt about it.

If you’ve every done something great for someone else, you don’t need to be thanked. It’s nice. In time you forget about it. You’d think that would be the one thing you’d never forget.

Instead it’s your moments of frailty that rise up and haunt you.

They are scumbags. Brave Sir Robin

What about those Navy Seals in Benghazi who rushed to help those people in the Consulate? They knew they were going to their death. This couple, if they appeared on tv to thank Mr. Zimmerman, would not be facing certain death.

Now Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and other lib/commie, faux humorists will spread the lie that the couple won't appear because the incident never happened, thereby deepening the hatred against the good George Zimmerman :-|

Amen! I am really itching for a fight here, but I would have done the same thing as this dad considering the size of the opposing force.

I have little ones that i worry about and I have backed away from some fights that I would have loved to fight too... (Irish)

“Shannon, the man has a wife and children.”

So did the founders. And they were in a lot more danfer doing what they did than this guy.

Seriously. Sometimes doing what is morally right is dangerous. That’s what makes men, Men.

The alternative is that the Black Pamper types win. And they just did. So what about the next time? And the next that always comes? Eventually someone has to man up.

When people who have done nothing wrong are afraid to appear in public, isn’t that the goal of all terrorists?

Yup. They have been called domestic terrorists and I think that title fits for the hang Zimmerman crowd.

neither Zimmerman or the people he rescued have done anything wrong.

(well.. there is probably some stupid law about wrecking your own truck in FL, but other than that..)

This couple wasn't even threatened yet. They did what one Conservative commentator called preemptive cowardice. A new and sickening trend in this country.

Stick a fork in America because she is done.

are you sure about that? (that they where not threatened yet) I don’t know either way, but it’s not to say they didn’t get a preemptive phone call from someone telling them to STFU.

You are obviously privy to some private information and the rest of us aren't.

Come forward with it, or are you the same kind of coward you accuse the family of?

I’m not seeing the dilemma here. A man saves your life, the least you can do is to thank him. It’s not necessary to do so publicly or to the media. As long as he’s square with George one on one, that’s all that’s necessary. Somone needs to tell this guy to just ignore the media, take care of his family, and put this behind them. If every celebutard that goes into rehab is “entitled to their privacy” then this guy sure as hell is. He needs to be a man and think for himself and not through some PR agent.

I am stunned daily by how far removed we have become from our ancestors. There is always an excuse. Always. Sure speaking out carries risk. But you either take that risk or accept your (collectively speaking) place as a slave to PC and terror. It is that simple.

Since I can’t think of something new to add, I shall Post a previous comment I made on another LIBERALS HATE GZ Thread.

>”So, the Democrat Obama Voter and his Family are afraid of the other Democrat Obama Voters because they were rescued by a Democrat Obama Voter”<

I think that about sums up the State of the Union. Thanks.

Keeping silent about is the like saying you agree with it.
Sorry but these people are standing on the same moral ground as the Germans who kept silent while they marched Jews to death camps.

The guy saved their lives and they can’t open their mouths to say so in public .... Zimmerman risked his life coming out of his truck to save theirs

The race baiters get away with this BECAUSE PEOPLE COWER AND KEEP SILENT
