Southie shock: ATM video could help nab woman's killer

Cops are counting on an ATM video freeze-frame from Amy Lord’s terrifying last morning alive to help them catch the cold-blooded killer who carjacked the beloved 24-year-old, stabbed her to death and dumped the body in a park — an apparently random, broad-daylight attack that horrified young women in South Boston and shocked her western Massachusetts hometown of Wilbraham. The photograph, released by police last night, shows Lord, clad in workout clothes and neon shoes, exiting her black SUV to take money from an ATM — one of five such stops cops say her attacker forced her to make in a terrifying trek through South Boston and Dorchester between 6 a.m. and 6:47 a.m. Tuesday.

The article says an arrest was made for two other attacks very recently. I wonder if the ATM picture indicates the same perp, or a different one.

Do ATM’s machines have an ‘emergency’ code you can enter?

If not, then they should

I saw a bank in Rochester NY that had a unique doorway and it made me think of this

A bank doorway can have a long hallway with 2 lockable doors.

As bank robber makes his move, you lock outer door #1. As bak robber leaves, and enters the hallway by door #2 you lock that. Then he is stuck there until police arrive, and everyone can point and laugh at him

This would have to be controlled by a bank manager or somethign so that no customers end up in the hallway with him

That is an excellent idea. It’s like my new cell phone would permit you to call 911 without knowing the code to unlock the phone.

As a woman reading this, my conclusion is that, since you're dead anyway (and probably raped), make them kill you immediately. As soon as you see the gun, attack. If you've got a gun, attack with that. If not, you've got a purse and teeth.

Fathers, teach your daughters to shoot. Help them get their Class 1 LTC. Buy them a pistol and help go over all the various carry methods...and the law. Then convince them to get the hell out of Massachusetts.

It will be time well spent...even before you teach them to change their oil and the occasional flat tire.

funny-I was just thinking the same thing-

You should have 2 PIN numbers- one of them for regular transactions and the other for this situation. The perp wouldn’t know the difference....

I agree. They say the worst thing that can happen is to be taken from your location. Scream, raise hell and fight with all your life.

look at that, she’s outside the car, thinking if she kept withdrawing money he was going to let her live

no place to run? no place to hide? roll under the car? run and scream? get someone’s attention?

Ive wondered if the TNT TV Show “Rizolli and Isles” has modeled their Paddy Doyle character on Whitey Bulger. Instead of shaking down drug pushers, the TV character gave some of his ill-gotten gains to his ex-wife for running humanitarian aid projects. The “gangster with a heart of gold” is apt to instill as much or more respect as the cop who is corrupt.

Amen to that. Along with martial arts/self-defense training.

I was just thinking about that now that I saw the picture. It appears that there were other people and other cars around her as she exited the car to make withdrawls. I can’t imagine what the horror she was feeling but I’ll try to run to someone right there and scream or run behind a car or building and make the criminal make a sudden decision — get out of the car and chase after me around people or drive off in fear now that she can recognize you to others

that is my plan if anyone attempts to abduct me... no way in hell am i going along with them just for a few more terrifying moments of life... my husband and i have talked about this several times through the years... he/she will have to kill me right then and there out in the open... anyway--my first inclination is to run away... i have been in a robbery situation a couple of times, and both times i booked it during the robbery... even while a gun was pointed at me...

It’s a lot harder for a criminal to hit you if you’re running, and anyway, it’s better to be maybe hurt or killed than certainly.
