Authorities say a 2-year-old boy was shot in the face in Harvey Thursday afternoon. The boy was taken to a local hospital but is expected to survive the injury, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Apache Drive. The boy's father told investigators he put his son into his vehicle and was headed for the driver's side door when he noticed an unidentified man standing nearby, Fortunato said. The man was talking with two women. All three were standing close to a black Nissan Sentra.
The father said he and the man locked eyes and then the man pulled out a gun and fired. Fortunato said the two did not exchange any words. "The father said he looked at the guy, and the next thing you know, he started shooting," Fortunato said.
One of the bullets hit the 2-year-old in the cheek. The injury is not life-threatening. Sheriff's Office deputies were at the scene after the shooting interviewing witnesses and searching for evidence. One nearby resident, who asked not to be identified, said she was outside smoking a cigarette just moments before the shooting.
The woman said she walked back inside to take a nap. "By the time I hit the mattress, I heard Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!" she said.
The incident is the second in a short period for the apartment complex. In December 2012 Troy Hensley, who lived in the apartment, was walking on crutches near the intersection of Apache Drive and Manhattan Blvd., just a block away from the building, when he was shot to death in a parking lot.

A little sparse on victim details.
Then, there was the 18 month old who was shot in the face while in his stroller. ‘Guess these little Niggas’(Rachael said that’s not racist) are now going for those who really can’t fight back.
I’m sure the victims want to remain anonymous.
Wonder if OBama will know his name.
Can a cracker be implicated?
Thanks again to Mr. Hussein Obama
“A little sparse on victim details.”
A little sparse on shooter details too.
That's because revealing any names would reveal what demographic those involved belong to.
I'd like to go on record stating comments like this really piss me off.
The kid is shot in the cheek, God only knows how badly this will impact his life, and it is all passed off as 'nothing to worry about', he'll live.
At least have the gumption to say, "While the child is not in danger of losing his life, it is impossible to relate how negatively this will impact him for the rest of his life."
Everyone reading this needs to have that pounded into their heads. This isn't something that ends in a few weeks for this kid. He could carry this with him for 60 to 100 more years. It may impact how others see this kid. It may impact his social standing and chance for advancement.
For nothing at all, this kid was damned to this reality. And frankly, if he's a Black kid, I'm just as infuriated as I would be if he were White.
This should be a death penalty offense.
So true. Let’s not reveal who is doing the killing in our nation.
4% of the population (black males from 14-28) is involved in 48% of the violent crime... but we MUST NOT allow this fact to be put into open public discourse.
And that same 4% are responsible for 93% of the violent crimes committed against blacks. Clearly they are hate-filled racists and must be prosecuted for Civil Rights violations. Mr Holder, you’re up!
Amen! Snitches get stitches applies to them also. My question is, where is Jesse, Al, and Fredrica?
INteresting that the color of the perpetrators is not considered newsworthy, but the color and make of the car was.
Did Obama mention not making eye contact? Because apparently that was the crime here. “He looked me in the eyes — that’s racist!!!”
“Of course he had to shoot him, the guy was stalking him with his eyes. He might have been a gay predator or something...”
Understand your frustration, but if you have ever tried to get anything published in a for profit environment you will have run into the word limit barrier. It is hard to try and convey the most with the least.
Thanks for your response.
The story seems strange but....
He since he was looking at the guy, he was obviously begging for trouble. Looking at a suspicious person is tantamount to assault, according to the supporters of Traydown, he might as well have been a Neighborhood Watchman
I guess by looking at the punk and locking eye contact he was somehow dissing the punk. Or maybe the punk was trying to impress the ladies.
