Way back when, Arab leaders (among them Assads, Husseins, and Mubarek) knew that if they wanted to die of old age they needed to kill as many of the Muslim Brotherhood as they could.

Nasser learned that lesson well, and while recovering made a lifetime commitment to strangle the Muslim Brotherhood.

Sadat didn't learn so well, but Mubarek tried to strengthen Nasser's policy.

However the traditional successful control of the MB consisted of several Arab leaders killing tens of thousands of them in nations all over the Middle East.

Until our own Hussein threw in with 'em, that is.

The MB was one of Andropov’s favored contractors back when he ran the KGB. And they are still turning out first-rate, Soviet style agents like al Zawaheri and Huma Abedin to name two.
