DETROIT — The bus driver made a mistake; there was no turning back.
Fifty Mexican immigrants, none of them documented citizens and only three with Green Cards, were on a bus from the Hispanic Center in Grand Rapids destined for the Mexican Consulate in Detroit Thursday when they found themselves unexpectedly under the scrutiny of Canadian border officials.
Ariel Moutsatsos, the minister of press for the Embassy of Mexico in Washington D.C., says the bus driver "made the wrong decision" and inadvertently took the highway onto the the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario. Once on the bridge, vehicles must cross over to Canada Customs.
Fourty-seven of the 50 passengers were detained temporarily but have since been released, said Moutsatsos. Forty-one, 10 of them minors, received notices to appear for migratory status hearings in the U.S. and could face deportation, he said.
Three others remained jailed due to criminal records. One of the detained had a warrant for a previous attempt to enter the U.S. without proper documentation.
Moutsatsos did not know the previous crimes of the other two jailed immigrants.
They are being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an Mexico Embassy-provided attorneys plans to meet with them Monday, said Moutsatsos.
He said the bus was a service provided by the Grand Rapids agency and the passengers were headed to the Mexican Consulate to tend to various documentation needs.
MLive Detroit was unable to reach the Canadian Border Services Agency, Mexican Consulate or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for comment Friday afternoon.
Yes that Hispanic center is trafficking illegals. No sympathy that the lawbreakers were busted.

Also..I don’t know if there were any illegals involved in this but Detroit lost one of it’s better citizens to a hit and run driver early Saturday morning.
The “Eat em up Tiger’s” guy, James Van Horn was one of two pan handlers hit and killed in the street as Van Horn Pushed “Dreadlock Mike” in his wheelchair.
Van Horn was one of those panhandlers who had actually found a useful niche and wasn’t shooed away from Comerica park they way most are. I encountered him a couple of times and he was a decent guy.

One of those held was a repeat offender border jumper. I’m most curious about why the other two were detained.
They have American children to rape and kill,

I have a distant NZ relative. Way back in the 70s she worked for a cruise ship co.
One cruise stopped in NY. She got off and decided to stay. Got a job as a nanny, bought a car, etc.
One day she decides to visit Canada so she drives up, spends a day or two there.
When she tries to re-enter the U S agents refuse entry, no visa.
They made her park the car in Canada and gave her 24 hrs to pick up her things and leave the country.
Banned her from coming back for 5 yrs. IIRC.

Really ironic isn’t it? Illegal immigrants here to do the work that Americans (Obama’s welfare group) will not do and then Canadian border patrol agents doing the work that American immigration agents will not enforce! Bizarre!
