“Since sudden confusion or trouble understanding can be a symptom. . . I was wondering how one might be able to self-diagnose and call 911?”

I was lucky and had no confusion——when the “shock” went up my arm I immediately recognized it as a stroke,I talked out loud to check speech (I live alone),and dialed 911.
The fact that there was not ONE warning symptom, not one,has alarmed me,but I just keep on truckin’,and praying.

Thank you for that very kind and informative reply. It’s inspiring to hear what one person can do by having pre-awareness of stroke symptoms.
For me, I suspect there would be a reaction of denial and wanting to wait and see if it would go away on it’s own :)
