Pope Says He Won't Judge Gay Priests

Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip...

"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.

Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.

He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

The Catholic church is becoming more and more PRO gay. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The Bible is clear we ARE to judge but not be hypocrites. The Pope should absolutely judge and admonish this behavior and be clear that they need to repent.

He didn’t and it’s wrong.

The pope cannot change teaching

If you would cite a specific instance you would have a better argument than falsely analyzing my life which is not an effective argument

"I’ve heard of Roman Catholic prophecies that there are only going to be so many popes."

OK, I get it. you're taking about Malarkey --- uh, Malachi? Bogus. (They're probably run that in Associated Press as well.)

"The Catholic Church teaches that gay people should not be discriminated against; they should be made to feel welcome."

Well then, the Catholic Church is in stark opposition to Scripture. There are numerous commands and exhortations to separate from proud evil-doers and heretical teachers who are confirmed in their sin and unrepentant. There is NO PRESCRIPTION FOR BEING "WELCOMING" IN SCRIPTURE.

What is the desire of God?

It is that his children spend eternity with Him (father, son and holy spirit)

What is the desire of Lucifer?

It is that mankind be separated from the love of God and be damned along with him in Hell.

Now, remember the prodigal son. The brother who was welcomed spent all his inheritance on women and booze. Yet, he was forgiven and welcomed back to the family with great celebration.

Now lets consider the words of Francis, homosexuals who are seeking God...We must always welcome those who are seeking God. The desire to be reunited with his love comes first, then the acknowledgement of the sin that has kept someone separated from God.

No catholic or Christian who understands the faith should ever turn away anyone who is seeking communion with God. Francis is not condoning sinful behavior, he is trying to welcome sinners of a particular persuasion back into the fold. We must do the same this is not condoning the sin, it is welcoming the sinner with love with the hope of repentance.

I find the homosexual agenda abhorrent. It is perverse, destroys the family, spreads death and disease. It is evil as it is a horrible perversion of the great God given gift of sexuality within a sacramental marriage. However, we must love the sinner and welcome them ( not the sin) into the love of Christ.

Differ with what?

You’re stating my point nicely

Catholics can achoeve salvation only through the Church

That is NOT the same as no one can achieve salvation but through the Church

That’s it. Catholic doctorine teaches that homosexuality is a grave disorder but not a sin. Acting on those desires is.

Just the impression Associate Press wants you to have. Imagine my surprise.

"Pope Francis, in some of the most compassionate words from any pontiff on gays, said they should not be judged or marginalised and should be integrated into society, but he reaffirmed Church teaching that homosexual acts are a sin."

July 29, 2013
Agence France-Presse

All of which is also in the Catechism.

"Ya could look it up." Paragraphs 2357-59 (Link). Worth reading, actually.

Many Protestant churches are holding firm on homosexuality. The ones that are not are loosing members at a well deserved rate

There is NO PRESCRIPTION FOR BEING "WELCOMING" IN SCRIPTURE.

And there's no prescription for Luther's doctrine of "the Bible alone" either, but that doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Yes, bad company corrupts good morals, but we're all sinners. Which sinners should we welcomed into our Church, and which should be excluded? Unrepentant ones? Sure, but that's a pastoral and prudential judgement. It's hard to tell who's unrepentant, just by looking at them.

Neither "the Pope" nor "the Catholic Church" condoned homosexuality nor supported nor excused homosexual conduct, which we know to be wrong. Christ teaches us through the Church that:

"Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."

"This inclination... is objectively disordered"

(Cited: Catechism, Para. 2357-59 (Link).)

So the inclination, though it is not a sin in itself, is "objectively disordered," and the conduct is a sin which under no circumstances can be approved.

If you find any Catholic going against that, let me know and I will go after them hammer and tongs. OK?

Got to remember he is tired from a long trip. Take it with a grain of salt.

When you're tired from a long trip of course it's only natural to pronounce homosexual priests acceptable.

Yep.

Last time I got off a plane, tired and sleepy, I thought to myself, you know, them queer priest fellers is OK by me. So, I completely understand. /s

He simply meant that only God kudges at the time of judgment but with the culture poised for acceptance of hpmosexual acts as normal and healthy it will be like fire and it will go off context
This statement is goito be something he regrets i imagine just for the cultural climate

Always go right to either EWTN, national Catholic Register ( not ... Reporter) for papal clarity and vatican reports

I am a Catholic, and I like this pope, but he is a litle wishy-washy on free markets.

I do so wish people would stick to their expertise, sometimes.

Like Noam Chomsky is probably the world’s more reknown expert on linguistics, but, for reasons unknown, a political and economic idiot -— and loves to talk politics, loudly.

Pope John Paul II said men with a STRONG HOMOSEXUAL orientation SHOULD BE DENIED admittance into the priesthood.
The reason is obvious. Most fags can not control themselves. They lie and are obsessed with young boys.
