Karl Rove, 100+ GOP Donors Send Letter to Republicans Urging Immigration Reform

by Tony Lee 30 Jul 2013, 6:18 AM PDT post a comment

Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria.

Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.

The letter begins: “We write to urge you to take action to fix our broken immigration system.” According to the New York Times, those who have signed include Rove; "former Vice President Dan Quayle; Tom Stemberg, a founder of Staples; and Frank VanderSloot, the founder of Melaleuca Inc." Romney campaign finance director Spencer Zwick was also signed the letter.

The Times reports that Carlos Gutierrez, former Commerce Secretary for President George W. Bush and a founder of the Republicans for Immigration Reform super PAC, organized the effort. Gutierrez, who has said in the past that English should not be the official language of government, said the letter was "the beginning of a campaign to lobby Republican lawmakers in favor of a broad immigration bill as they return to their districts for the August break."

This is good, this is good.....it gets the names out there for all to see.

And Romney’s money is behind it as well....shows what kind of President he would have made.

There should be a network map of the entire GOPe that puts names, faces and business names as labels. This entire cabal of infiltrators needs to be suspended if not expelled from the rank and file of the GOP, else the GOP can die while a third party takes root.

Our immigration system has never been “broken” (which is Libspeak), it’s been unenforced.

America’s immigration system is the worst in the entire world.

We have gone mad.

Every other nation, has borders.

Every other nation, has laws.

ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAW.

Stop giving everything away.

Illegals wouldn't be able to vote for two decades? Really? They'd all be voting pronto thanks to the nearest pliable federal judge. Count on it.

No doubt these donors are folks who thrive on cheap labor. The American people know what is at stake here.

The way locals/ native texans including battlefield veterans get treated by Costco, grocery store, bookstore and movie house clerks and managers, in preferance to any Mexican - english speaking no english speaking, paing or mon paying, this is no surprise

Big business wants this

Lowes has gone to spanish language signs here and in florida at least

The kids have to defer to the Mexicans in school, filling out tests declaring their race. It is a racist system. The Latino/as get the scholarships. They all know it.

These kids’ parents drive very good vehicles. Once a montg the kids are attending some $30,000 mexican debutante ball last month it was at the four seasons

Question is why is Rove given any air time

Why so we want to be a corporation and not a country with laws and a constitution to protect

The mexicans will take over with their culture in certain sections but big sections like staes like fla, texas and more and pur kids, the children also of the roves, bushes and their anthony weiner-level list but for money. Their progeny will be left flapping in the wund with no country

Prostitutes

Retail corporate prostitutes allowed by RINOS and libs to destroy our country

...They should have NO access to any welfare programs, Medicaid or Obamacare and must pay fees for their kids to attend public schools. Failure to register as an illegal should mean a couple of years in a detention facility before deportation and forever bars them and their families from ever coming here legally...

The Demonrats, who likely will be in control into the unforeseeable future, would never do any of that. Come to think of it, Republicans probably wouldn't either.

Not just RINOs. They are out and out leftist liberals who no longer pretend to be conservatives. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Rove, Christie, et al. are Dem plants with a mission to destroy the opposition from within.

Only 100??

And just what percentage of donors does that really make?

Less than 1% I bet, which means this is all about him and his views and has nothing to do with the party as a whole.

I wonder how many have sent letters warning they will dump the party completely if they sign it. Come on Carl, why not show both sides of the coin here and tell us that number as well!

If the GOP caves to these people, it needs to be destroyed, not reformed.

I assume that 90%+ of GOP donors pushing “immigration reform” are knowingly hiring illegals over legal American workers.

..... 100 plus donors eh?

How many are fakes? Donating to Republicans is a cheap way to buy influence.

Like the girl holding the sign saying 'Racist and proud' turning out to be a liberal... and the lesbian who carved 'hate messages' into her own skin - and blamed white conservative men. Also a fake. That side - liberals - are made up of liars... and everything they do needs to be checked out against that standard.

No, not "has gone," he was always from that side of the fence.

It's just that many of us were persuaded he was on our side.

You are far more polite than I am-I was handed a “survey” by a neighbor who volunteers sometimes for our spineless state govt rep. I wrote “an amnesty vote = no money-I’m broke already-thanks a lot”.

Karl Rove has never really understood the mountain of data that he uses to impress people as a political expert! He is all memory, not analysis.

This is why he had Bush chasing after what he perceived as voting blocks--Soccer Moms (for Teddy Kennedy's Education Bill); Elderly Patients (for Federal Drug Coverage), etc..

Rove has never understood how to break the Leftist's hold on various groups, without trying stupidly to outbid the Democrats. There are other, principled, ways to appeal to all but the hopelessly corrupted.

The 2006 election demonstrated the absurdity of Rove's political "expertise." That he can still persuade wealthy businessmen to back his folly is sad; but it should not be allowed to mislead anyone who really cares about the American future.
