Edward Snowden Safely Lands In Venezuela Where He Was Granted Asylum To Avoid U.S. Extradition \

Washington, DC — The Al Jazeera news agency is reporting that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has safely landed in Caracas, Venezuela. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had offered asylum to the former U.S. intelligence contractor on Friday who was believed to be waiting in transit at a Moscow airport.

Guillermo Thomas who is a spokesman for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela told aljazeera.com that Snowden is currently in the country and that he is thrilled to be there. “We are very blessed to have Mr. Snowden in our country, it is a pleasure,” Thomas said. “There were no direct flights across the Atlantic from Moscow to Venezuela. The only flight for Snowden to avoid U.S. extradition was to travel through Cuba. We would like to thank our friends in Cuba for making this journey possible and such a success.” Thomas continued, “Mr. Snowden is a hero and should be treated as one. We are pleased to provide this hero a home where he can live and be safe.”

But we’re still run by fools.

No kidding.

“He is making the US Government look like a bunch of fools.”

Well, no offense, but how tough would that be?

Aren’t jokes supposed to be funny?

How many people do you think fell for it?

I think that's the funniest part.

My sister in law and her family lived in Venezuela for several years and seemingly thrived... all before Hugo though.

I am on Snowden’s side. He sacrificed a comfortable life to do what he thought was right.

This contrasts with most others who sell state secrets for money, drugs, sex or some combination of the three.

And I dislike the Venezuelan govt. a lot. I have to say, on this one case, Bravo.

And since the NSA probably monitors this site, I hope I do not suddenly disappear.

I have no idea where he is.

Under the current regime (both here and in Venezuela), hiding out in Venezuela seems to be a low quality play.

Friend and mentor of obama, Bill Ayres, advocated murdering 25 million Americans.

Adjusting to the population increase that would be about 35-40 million today.

I’m pretty sure every FReeper is on the list, along with so many others...

Snowden was retarded to have no better plan than to end up in Venezuela.

Who knows, maybe he isn’t really in another country.

It took the feds decades to find Crazy Ted Kazinski...

Well actually it took his brother squealing on him....

It I had info to leak I would make it appear that I went over seas and stay in the USA hiding out as either someone way out in the boonies, or dressed up as a homeless person.

What is right under you nose is the most easily missed...

I think he told Putin look, man, I got stuff people need to know and Putin said fine, but tell it somewhere else.

But why Ed would think he’d be safe in Caracas is beyond me.

Doesn’t matter where he lands. He hasn’t got the right stuff to survive as a stranger in a strange land. It’s one thing to choose the life of an expat. It’s quite another to be forced into it, having burned all bridges behind you. I’ve crossed paths with fugitive American expats in my travels. All regretted it. All wanted to come “home.” Life is all about choices. For guys like Snowden, life is a bitch, and then you die. In a Third World sink trap. Alone.

Oh pleeez...Obama would simply pay Venezuela and they’d give him up. Heard they need toilet paper.

Putin doesn't need info from Snowden. You think the USA is the only one spying??

Bet he winds up staying in Russia. This is the American version of White Night.

We don’t even know if this story is true. Nothing about it on the Guardian.

Maybe it's a plot to elevate Putin to the status of wise global leader. (sarcasm)

I think that's the funniest part.

Satire and fraudulent stories are not the same thing. Satire is humorous, fake stories are just a waste of people's valuable time.

C'mon, didn't you think it was a little bit funny when Chinese media reported an Onion story as fact?
