Bradley Manning has been found guilty of betraying his country. Throw away the key
The Telegraph ^ | 7-30-2013 | Tim Stanley

It's reported that Bradley Manning has been found guilty of five counts of espionage and five counts of theft, all of which means a very long time in prison. And he deserves it. Ignore for the moment the fact that he's not been found guilty of aiding the enemy. They key thing here is that the court has, rightly, found him guilty of betraying his country. Lock him up and throw away the key.

There are whistle-blowers and then there are traitors, and Bradley Manning falls into the latter category. Of course, there are also different categories of traitors and our Bradley isn't the super-spy kind. He's a boy who probably didn't belong in the army, should've been identified as a potential problem early on, should never have been given access to military intelligence, went slightly crazy on the power his access gave him, and then shared what he knew with the world. It's a tragic story rather than a damning one. But make no mistake – Bradley did a bad, bad thing.

“Hang him!” —exactly what I’d thought.

Mostly I still think that, but in view of the fact that now apparently the US guv regards common citizens as impending terrorists or at least schmucks who deserve a good spanking just for the hell of it...

Meh —I’m not so pissed at the little homo, any more.

I'll buy the rope.

Bradley Manning is the poster boy as to why gays do not belong in the military or any sensitive position.

Manning’s problem is there was not enough gay military officers in charge to let him off the hook.

This turd needs to spend a long time in prison.

Now ... Why does it take almost FOUR YEARS to get that murdering terrorist Nidal Hassan to trial? His date is currently set for 06AUG13 ... we’ll see if that happens.

The Clintons gave away and sold more US defense secrets than Manning and Snowden combined.

Manning is a pickle sniffer who was upset that his boyfriend jilted him while he was on deployment in Iraq. In a snit he downloaded the info and sent it to Wikileaks. The trunk spelunker had no political or monetary motive; he just threw a temper tantrum.

Manning will be really popular in prison; he has “b***h” written all over his puny body.

And while we're at it, the POS has dual citizenship, UK and USA. We're one of only a handful of countries that still permits this nonsense. Get rid of it. Either you're an American or your not. This turd burglar is a homo Limey dressed up in an Army suit.

Well he did do the US a valuable service so I don’t think that he deserves hanging and the Judge did find him not guilty of aiding the enemy so I don’t see that there was any evidence of people dying because of what he did (although some of them should have died of embarrassment based on what was reveled). The valuable service that he provided was that he exposed just how poor our security stance was and forced the government to tighten it up quite a bit. This was a good thing in that I’m sure there were others taking advantage of this lack of security and passing this information on to much less friendly people than Wiki-leaks.

Overall I don’t expect him to breath free air again based primarily on the fact that he embarrassed Queen Hillary and the State Dept., not to mention Obama and several other high level elites, not to mention that he did violate his oath and committed the crime of espionage. He’ll probably get more time than the Ft. Hood killer if that makes you any happier.

Manning / Snowden. Compare and contrast.

Compare: they both had access to classified information.

Contrast: Manning released reams of classified documents, was motivated by revenge for the Army's DADT policy.
Snowden AFAIK only revealed the scope of NSA domestic spying, motivated by civic concern. I don't know if he actually leaked any classified documents.

Also, Manning is a homosexual (the root of his grudge), Snowden doesn't appear to be.

“Meh —I’m not so pissed at the little homo, any more.”

Couldn’t agree more.

Government secrets should only be respected if the government is virtuous, when a government is corrupt, the more daylight the better.

If the leaks served as recruiting materials (as the leaked Abu Ghraib photos were) for jihadists, then they served to provide aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. The Abu Ghraib pictures were leaked by the uncle of one of the perps when he couldn't blackmail the government into a plea bargain to prevent their leak to the media.

poor argument, since any US bombing also serves as recruiting material for the enemy. Matter of fact, our existence serves as recruiting material, so we’re all guilty by the fact that we exist.
