More than 76,000 workers went on the federal government's disability program in July, according to the latest data from the Social Security administration, bringing the total number of new enrollees this year to 534,038.
Although that is down somewhat from the same month last year, enrollment in the Social Security Disability Insurance program remains sharply higher than it has been historically. Since 2009, an average of about 1 million workers have gone on SSDI annually — a 31% increase from the average enrollment over the previous 10 years.
As a result, a record 8.9 million workers are now collecting disability benefits, which is up 15% since the recovery officially started in mid-2009.

Oh, those poor, poor people!
How terrible that they were injured to the point they can’t work!!
Was it a terrorist attack? Natural disaster? Democrats in power?
I have known some genuinely disabled persons who have been hassled in the last year about their bennies. Anyone else seeing this? My theory— get people dependent, and then find ways to hassle them and threaten them. If you don’t follow the rules, and they are always changing the rules,you can be charged with a felony for fraud.

Disabilities far too often usually = fat, or ate so poorly for years that you cant even lift a bucket without a danger of a stroke.
There is no way all of these people were genuinely injured to the point where they are physically incapable of working.
Based on local tv ads, disability law is now big biz for local tort firms.
That in itself tells the tale, just like “big education”, “big law” is a prime funding supplier to Democrats.

These are the types of numbers you would see in a war scenario! And even in real wars 76,000 of actual wartime casualties (people with what are real physical disabilities) were men that wanted to shrug them off and go back into the fight!
How can they be ‘workers’ if they are on disability benefits?...............
Of COURSE it would be upside down -
people who are defrauding the system will be encouraged,
and those in genuine need will be hassled.
It’s what the left does!
We need to enact some “Leningrad” checks on these claims.
In WWII when Leningrad was under seige by the Germans each citizen was issued a food card. People soon began to take advantage of the system. In respone officials called for every citizen to appear and identify themselves. After the first couple hundred were dealt with, it was amazing how everyone else began to follow the rules.
I suggest we have a review of all disability claims. If you’re truly disabled that’s one thing. If you’re milking the system, you should have to pay all benefits back, you are then cut off and you have to find a job....if you won’t we will.
And a small, tiny fraction of those are legit.
These tort firms are getting ALL their monies up front. What I mean is they take their $$$ the day the application is final approved. And the attorneys do everything they can to be sure the appl. takes a full year to be granted as their pay is 40% of those 12 months benefit. If the so called disabled person gets into trouble months down the road with fraud, the attorney has 100% of theirs and the attorney washes their hands of any subsequent issues that are uncovered.
What a racket !!
Well, that’s one way to keep them from being counted as UNEMPLOYED.
Who needs jobs? We’ve got the government in this country!
The rules of engagement were actually made more lax under Bush. I saw this coming years ago.
I did learn something though. Now I know that there is earned disability (for people who used to work and pay SS) and unearned disabililty (for people who never paid in a dime). I thought the responses to the questions were amazing. Like, what grade did your father finish in school? I don't know.
It's been under Obozo that the number being put on the disability roles have risen dramatically.
