State officials asked a court to stop a rogue county from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples on Tuesday, nearly a week after a clerk began granting them in violation of Pennsylvania law.
The petition filed by the Health Department alleges that D. Bruce Hanes, the register of wills in Montgomery County, “repeatedly and continuously” flouted the law. As of Tuesday afternoon, Hanes’ office had granted 34 licenses and registered six same-sex marriages. …
Pennsylvania is the only northeastern state without same-sex marriages or civil unions. Hanes began issuing licenses to same-sex couples shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the federal Defense of Marriage of Act. If he wants to be on the right side of history and the law, why doesn’t he work to change the law? Or is he liberal, and feels that he alone, or judges alone, should be the ones to decide how marriage is defined?

Over-all, Corbett has been doing a good job. I wish the process to privatize the State liquor store system (yes, one of only 2 in the Union) and to make us a right-to-work state was faster.

He’s elected to carry out very specific duties. He cannot create new ones on a whim, particularly where they violate the law! He is nothing more than a criminal and any “licenses” he’s issued contrary to law are null.
He should be in barred from office and jailed for malfeasance. Little tinpot tyrant ...
