NASA chief: You Can’t Fund Private Mars Mission...

Mars One: Watch Us

NASA chief: No, watch us (as armed Federal police take over the Mars One launch facility and arrest the principals for violating EPA regulations...)

Despite the obvious hurdles of this effort, I can’t get over the pompous comments by a drone whose agency can’t get us into space after 50 years ‘experience’ in the industry.

When it comes to space exploration NASA, shut the F up.

We were doing more to put man in space in the 60s, than we are fifty years later.

We went to the moon for the first time in 1969. After several repeats, we haven’t been back there in over 40 years.

Pathetic.

One of those live it or die at it moments. Quite an incentive.

NASA can’t even get a man up in orbit without bumming a ride from the Russians.

“Lansdorp indicated that live-streaming video and other media from the Mars colony would make for riveting (and highly sponsor-able) material”

Yeah, imagine if the Donner Party had webcams up that whole winter.....riveting tv watching a group of non astronauts die of exposure/starvation/asphysixiation....you get the point. but I’m all for them trying anyway. it’s their business not NASA’s

I was at Cape Kennedy this spring and everyone was talking about Orion and the new rocket for interplanetary travel.
Based on what they already have done, they are worried about Mars1 getting their first.

I am 51 years old and I would go for it with no hesitation. It is a rare chance these days to write your name in the history books as an explorer or pioneer.

If the Donner Party was a reality TV show it would have the highest ratings in it's block.

You have heard of that show "Cops" right? Someones really bad day is your entertainment.

“crowdfunded space flight, he doesn’t have much confidence in commercial missions,,,,”

This “crowdfunded” thing, is that the same as taxpayers, each contributing into NASA? Seems to me crowdfunding is the norm. As for private ventures into the unknown, NASA hasn’t done much worthwhile in years, even decades by some measures. The right stuff and the moonshots are long past.

NASA's largest ongoing project (other than the woeful space station) is the James Webb Space Telescope.

Only 700% over budget so far.

Only ten years behind schedule....and counting.

Encountering problems that are perhaps unsolvable with present technology.

Yup, listen to NASA....they really are the experts.

76 thousand one way? Justin Bieber makes that much in an hour having his picture taken. 76 thousand. Michelle Obama eats that much Kobe beef in a week.

“The Mother of all Train Wrecks”

They could probably do it better than NASA. NASA would turn it into a three ring circus with a lesbian midget moslem crew. And they might forget to convert things into metric as they did once before.

A private venture wouldn’t be as likely to waste efforts on Hansen or Moslem outreach, etc. If it didn’t help the bottom line, they wouldn’t do it. And as for EPA, FAA, etc,, they could go to a country like Russia that likes making money and will happily flip Obama the finger.
It could launch from anywhere if the dirtbags here try to bureaucratic A-holes here try to interfere.
