If it was infected with "wasting disease", which we do not yet know, you don't want to eat any of the meat as it may be contaminated and be the death of you. There is no cure nor vaccine.
It, "wasting disease", has a long slow progression before killing its host, it takes an autopsy to confirm its presence.
Still willing to eat it rather then euthanize it before it spreads the disease further?
I keep hearing about "feds" and "drones" and all sorts of crackpot fantasies.
First point, I live in Kenosha County. There were NO DRONES. The DNR does keep tabs on the deer herd in various parts of the state via aerial survey planes. These are population surveys used to help determine which areas will be opened to hunting and when. They also keep tabs on obvious losses to predators and any sign of spreading disease.
Secondly, there were no "Feds" involved. The DNR personnel are sworn, state level law enforcement, and they are normally armed while on duty. They were accompanied by Kenosha County Sheriff's Deputies, who are also normally armed. The Deputies were deployed as a courtesy because the Sheriff is kept appraised when LEOs from out of the County are operating on his turf. There were no "Fritz" helmeted ninja garbed black booted thugs present. Yes, Kenosha County has a SWAT team, no they were not employed.
Lastly, the lady who runs the "no-kill" shelter is a local nut job who has made problems for herself in the past and has apparently not learned much from her previous encounters with the law. At one point she trespassed on private property, removed two dogs from a fenced enclosure, transported the dogs to Illinois and sold them. She is frequently featured in the Kenosha News crime beat column. She is a few bricks short of a full load and is not considered a reliable witness.
I hope everyone can stop hyperventilating about the massive raid and relax with an adult beverage...

So what, I don't suppose the Illinois Agriculture Department would be thrilled with Wisconsin residents bringing deer across the border into an area currently free of Chronic Wasting Disease. That would mean that the "shelter" owner would have committed crimes in two states, not just one. By the way you might read up on Cindy Schultz as she is known in the area as a real nut case and has continuing troubles with the law. All the hyperbole about air planes and drones is meaningless as this whole donnybrook was kicked off when a neighbor saw the deer at the "shelter" and dropped a dime on her. The DNR subsequently responded as Wisconsin law requires.

I have been living in Kenosha for over 40 years. The Brat Stop still doing business, beer still cold, brats still excellent!

Are you a deer hunter? If so where have you been hiding? Please read through the following links, CWD is a real threat and spreading slowly through the Whitetail deer herd which is a multimillion dollar resource for Wisconsin's economy. We tend to take things like that seriously.

An absolutely sane and common sense approach that a government of rational people would have been chosen.
If the deer were not brought to the shelter, as it probably shouldn't have been because it's mother was probably nearby, it would just have been another deer out there, diseased or not.
Also, according to the CDC Prion or waisting disease transmission from deer to human is debatable, and even if it is transferable avoiding eating the brain, spine, eyes and spleen make the possibility of transmission close to 0%. And if after all that you're going to kill the fawn, how about have one officer pick it up calmly and dispose of it elsewhere?
Maybe that you don’t care about humans reflects more on your worth as a human (or lack of) than about the worth of humans vs animals in general.
What is my worth as a human? Should it matter to me or anyone else how other members of my species determine my worth or value? The only thing that matters to me his how I determine my worth.
I can tell you this. During my time on this rock, I have come to love animals far more than I love mankind.

That is another reason that I prefer animals to humans. Animals are honest, humans are not.
What I have done is construct my life in the way I wish it to be constructed, and I have filled it with exactly what and who I want in it, with the end goal being having what provides me the most joy, love and happiness possible.
That construction includes the fewest amount of humans as I can possibly manage, because I do not need anyone telling me that the way that I have decided to live, and the way I have decided to see things is sad or funny. What is sad is that you feel the need to tell me that.
I am a man who does what I want, not what you want or anyone else wants. I am free. If you find that funny or sad, then it is I who pities you.
