Rand Paul will get a battering from many people not just Christie. Christie’s major donors are the neocons who abhor Paul’s neoisolationism much more than his libertarianism. They fear that hard pressed Americans are beginning to question expensive foreign entanglements that squander human and material treasure. Critical articles like this will appear to harass Paul constantly.

Watch and see who is laughing at who soon. The GOP has left an awful lot of people like myself in regards to defunding ObamaCare, investigating Benghazi, Illegal Immigration, etc.... We will see who laughs best when it counts

I don’t think it’s a very good idea to make fun of people that are your only chance to build a winning coalition against the left.

Right now very few elected officials represent libertarian views. Most Dems represent libertine views. Most Republicans have acquiesced with those views because they want to prove they're the stupid party, once again. Libertarians aren't the problem. Rand is not the problem. The problem is that 99% of elected Republicans don't take a stand on the beliefs of their conservative or libertarian base.

It would be better served if the blogger had focused his keen edged wit where the real problem lies....

The author is a fool: Somalia is a Libertarian dream - without LAW.

You add in LAW and you get something entirely different. Libertarians are not against law and order and it’s interesting that he would infer that they are.

I stopped reading after he wrote that.

I haven’t seen any real Libertarian bashing for almost a decade, but it’s starting to creep up. They must really fear Rand Paul.

A conservative movement that has to jettison Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Friedrich Hayek, Barry Goldwater and so many more. Gook luck making the case for limited government without them, assuming making such a case is even important anymore.

i think there should be a new rule at free republic for all threads in which libertarianism or the libertarian party is discussed. can anyone guess what i’m going to propose? actually, there’s no reason for a rule, since so many already do it. this is painful to do. i feel like all of my elementary school teachers are frowning at me. how do people live like this?

Laugh all you want - then just try winning another national election without us.

It's a repeat of the GOP Master Strategy that lost California.

eh.

I’d take a reasonable libertarian over:

1 RINO
2 Zero, Hildabeast, Ragel, etc.

No contest. Though we disagree on some issues, there is more overlap than with RINOs who represent the Central Party.

Yes, very funny. Just like how funny those last few elections have been for you guys after you told us to get lost and then we had the temerity to not stick around on election day. Very, very funny! You know what’s going to be funnier...? Watching you guys keep talking trash to us for the next couple years and then seeing your reaction when hillary is in the white house. Oh, the funny writes itself!

The guy whose pic we find at the top of this thread is Ronald Reagan. He said: “If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.”

If you totally dismiss libertarianism, then you totally dismiss Ronald Reagan.

I figure those who fear libertarianism, equally fear freedom. Often they are mere Posers pretending to be conservatives.

What else could explain their fear? Since libertarianism is likely the most dangerous threat to progressive liberals we have.

I’d rather poke fun at liberals.

I have much more in common with the Libertarians that I personally know than I EVER will have with liberals. There are some differences of opinion, sure. But by and large, we’re in the same fighting holes.

They support individual liberty and freedom; so do I.

They support capitalism; so do I.

They support gun rights: so do I.

They support sensible taxation: so do I.

They support less government intrusion: so do I.

They’re opposed to socialism, communism, fascism: So am I.

They’re opposed to “redistribution of wealth”: so am I.

They’re opposed to ANY form of “tyranny over the minds of man”: so am I.

I prefer not to alienate potential allies. Especially when the hour is as late as it is in the life of my Country, and we’re pressed on all sides by democrat barbarian hordes as it were.

To each their own, I guess.

I have learned many things in this thread, such as

Mitt Romney is a libertarian.

John McCain is a libertarian. I assume Lindsey Graham is too.

Rand Paul is a Libertarian.

Libertarians support Obamacare.

Libertarians believe that government should provide drugs and condoms.

Reagan didn’t mean what he said about libertarianism being the heart and soul of conservatism. Libertarianism played no role at all in Reagan’s ideological makeup.

Libertarians are commandos of the Left.

There is something called “conservative economics” that exists apart from libertarianism, classical liberalism, Austrian and Chicago Schools, or I suppose even Monatarism.

Only “conservative economics” has looked into the economic consequences of the breakdown of the family, and “conservative economics” apparently does not go beyond this particular line of study.

Libertarianism is needed to help young people embrace liberalism, and vote Democrat.

Well hell why not point out with the same energy the fact that the Democrats are the party of slavery ,socialism & sodomy or that the Republicans are for all intents & purposes spineless zipless F#@ks.

At least the Libertarians didn’t put up the likes of Mittens Romney on their ticket or try to howl down Cruz.
