Nancy Mace Will Seek Nomination for US Senate (Lindsey Graham opponent)
Nancy Mace U.S. Senate ^ | 08/03/2013 | Nancy Mace

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – AUGUST 3, 2013

NANCY MACE, FIRST FEMALE GRADUATE OF THE CITADEL, SMALL BUSINESS OWNER, WILL SEEK GOP NOMINATION FOR U.S. SENATE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Mace says, “We cannot change Washington unless we change who we send to Washington.”

August 3, 2013 – Goose Creek, S.C. – Nancy Mace announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate today in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Mace is a resident of Charleston and attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where she was the school’s first female graduate from its Corps of Cadets in 1999. Mace earned a masters degree in mass communication from The University of Georgia. She currently owns and operates a public relations firm.

Mace said, “I grew up during the Reagan years. I believe our fortieth president understood what being an American was all about. He was proud, resolute, and he was an eternal optimist. Our friends knew he would be steadfast and our enemies respected him. President Reagan helped regain our national pride, but he also left us with a powerful warning. He said, ’Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction.’ He said ‘we must fight for it, protect it, and defend it.’ I think those words ring true now more than ever.”

Your point is taken.

I’m neither from SC, nor have I figured out who’s the best alternative—though I’m certain an alternative is best.

I would love to see Graham replaced by a conservative.

I know nothing about Mace.

However, my first gut instinct about her is to ask what is “conservative” about sexually integrating (read: egregiously subverting the prior esprit de corps of) a (private!) historically all-male military school — and a very important one, at that?

Sounds as though she was a willing shock troop for the progressive social engineers working overtime to destroy this company’s time-honored traditions and institutions.

Unless I can see where she has come out against the foolish “gender integration” of the Citadel and military academies, she fall under “RINO” in my book.

Those FReepers that think I am over the top can first ask themselves how we got to where we are now with the military and trace a line back to the sexual integration of our military academies. It was the Trojan Horse that set the death cycle in motion.

Give her book a try. Learn a little about her. You may find your gut instinct is not quite on target this time. I suspect that what you said may work against her in a campaign because others will agree with you.

But what if it turns out that she's the best conservative candidate? Toss her out because she's a mother and a General's daughter? Toss her out because she was and is a woman?

Well, well...you’d love to see Graham replaced by a conservative but proceed to, in essence, start attacking one of his challengers? Very strange.

Shannon Faulkner was the woman who “integrated” the citadel not Mace.

Why are you interested in trying to instigate intramural wars between conservatives? Very strange. I’m sure that Little Lindsey will delight in your activity.

//////////////////////

Uh, it’s called debate and discussion. As I understand it, there are three candidates running as “conservatives” against Graham — shall we not discuss their respective merits? Something tells me they are not all equally rock-solid on all the issues of the day.

////////////////////////////////////

Perhaps. Perhaps not. The motive behind my post is an honest response to the breathless “she was the first female grad of the Citadel!” comments — whether here in FR, or elsewhere.

I stand by my original statement on this thread, where I said: “I would love to see Graham replaced by a conservative.”

After all, I have been “burnt” by Bushes, Romneys, and McCains. Don’t expect me to be overly “accepting” of everyone seeking office under the Republican banner — without at least asking some tough questions. What if she is another Kelly Ayotte?

That said, if Mace is indeed shown to be a Margaret Thatcher or Phyllis Schlafly on the issues of the day, then — by all means — I would be happy to see her win.

Fair enough.

I suspect that what you said may work against her in a campaign because others will agree with you.

////////////////////
Well she can help herself on that issue by coming out now and saying she opposes the current administration’s insane drive to inject women into a front-lines combat role. (But betting she won’t.)

////////////////////////////

But what if it turns out that she’s the best conservative candidate? Toss her out because she’s a mother and a General’s daughter?

////////////////////
If it turns out she is the best conservative candidate, may she win. Tossing her out because she is a general’s daughter? Where did that come from? Though, now that you mention it, if we wish to use son-of-an-admiral John “Muhammad” McCain as a precedent, I may need to rethink that one. ;-)

Just another way of saying that it was clear to me that you, not knowing Nancy Mace, were biased against her because, even though she graduated from The Citadel with a 3.7 average Magna Cum Laude, she is a female.

I don't know yet which S.C. conservative candidate I'll support but I'm not laden with the same opinions of Mace you have, without even knowing her. Try her book, In the Company of Men: A Woman at The Citadel.

From her company's website:
Nancy became the first female graduate of The Citadel Corps of Cadets in 1999. She graduated with magna cum laude honors. As one of only two women who made it through knob year in ’97, she attributes much of her success as a public relations executive to the foundation her experiences at The Citadel provided.

Nancy graduated from the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia with a Master of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication. From The Citadel she holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration.

Her father, Brigadier General James E. Mace, is a 1963 graduate of The Citadel, former Commandant of Cadets and most decorated living graduate of The Citadel. Her mother, Dr. Anne J. Mace, is a 1972 graduate of the MAT program from The Citadel.

She currently resides in Charleston with her husband, two children and a cat named Scout.

Sounds like someone is a little defensive, perhaps? Re-read my words below, which were not combative, as I said (in reply to your suggestion that I give her further consideration), “Fair enough.” In other words, I extended the olive branch, but you did not accept it.

Your words: Give her book a try. Learn a little about her. You may find your gut instinct is not quite on target this time.

My reply: Fair enough.

//////////

So, as you have chosen to prolong the discussion, let’s examine your latest volley:

“Just another way of saying that it was clear to me that you, not knowing Nancy Mace, were biased against her because, even though she graduated from The Citadel with a 3.7 average Magna Cum Laude, she is a female.”

First, her GPA means nothing to me. If she earned the marks fair and square, a 3.7 GPA does not a leader make. Exhibit A: Jimmy Carter had a 4.0 at the Naval Academy. How did he work out as a leader? Moreover, do you think the profs were inclined to downgrade Ole’ Gen Mace’s daughter? I think not. Rather, they were likely instructed to help the first females to succeed.

Certainly, I am not biased against her for being a female, as she cannot help that. Following your liberal-sounding defense of her, however, I am now becoming increasingly biased against her for trading on her status as a social-engineer-inspired subverter of a revered military institution, and, THEN, to promote herself, in the same breath, as a “conservative” alternative to the utterly disappointing LGraham.

Hmmm. Something isn’t adding up.

Once again, harking back to John McCain, son (and grandson!) of a renowned Navy Admiral — what a disappointing hack! Leadership and character are not always passed along to offspring from those in the flag ranks, though, of course, Ms Mace may possess both of those in spades (but who yet knows this early on in her fledgling campaign?).

In your defense, perhaps the most compelling argument you make for the viability of her candidacy is that she lives with her family and a cat named Scout. That really spoke to me! /sarc

Again, I said I would give her a chance. Now I will be waiting to see some substance. For instance, where does she stand on the Pentagon’s current plans to admit women to the ranks of the Rangers, SEALs, etc. Or, how about her stand on amnesty? Or, on defunding ObamaCare?

Prediction: I bet she won’t even “go there.” (But happy to be proven wrong!)
