New Orleans Police are searching for a pair of men who carjacked two women and a 3-year-old girl as they were getting into their vehicle in the Marigny neighborhood Saturday night. The robbery occurred in the 500 block of Marigny Street about 8:30 p.m., according to authorities.
The women had just returned to their parked car and were in the process of putting the toddler and their belongings in the vehicle. Two men approached, one armed with a pistol, authorities said.
The robbers ordered the driver to give up her watch and the vehicle, a white, 2007 Jeep Compass. The robbers then ordered the other woman out of the passenger side and stole her watch, as well, authorities said.

And yet the artsy,enviornmentalist, it’s all good crowd INSISTS they will gentrify the Marigny into the new ‘arts district’! They are surrounded by some of the worst criminals and blight in New Orleans yet walk around naively thinking that the ‘ambiance’ of quaint surroundings and renovated houses change that fact. And so they become victims daily- of theft,assault and worse.
They are wasting their money and their lives.
I was born and raised in the Marigny and I wouldn’t walk those streets at night for a million dollars cash. It is the rare native surburbanite who goes into the city proper at any time, much less at night.
Stay out of New Orleans. You are ‘meat on the street’.

I spent a lote of time there between 2005 (before Katrina) and 2010 - aside from the inconvience of getting groceries, it was peaceful.
I wonder what has happened to make it so dangerous again.
Located between the French Quarter and the lovely ambience of the Lower Ninth Ward, Marigny merely experienced a lull during the post-Katrina period. It has long gotten hit with crime from both directions, so this is mostly a return to “normal”.

I understand your point, but the Marigny in fact borders The Bywater, which is the Upper Ninth Ward.
Yes, technically Bywater is immediately downriver of Fauberg Marigny. Jack Dempsey’s restaurant exists there only because of stadium lighting in the parking lot and the Naval Support Facility across the street. Generally everything south of St. Claude Ave. along the river corridor is bad news.
I wish they had all left Houston.
What happened? Despite the influx of gays and yuppie types buying old houses and painting them in pretty colors, the Marigny is surrounded by crime. St. Claude Ave was never a safe boulevard-not even back in the 60’s-and now it’s a crime ridden corridor directly into the hellhole that is the lower 9th. The lake side of St.Claude is crime ridden, as is Treme-and every criminal knows the naïve yuppie and gay types have nice bikes, cars and money. Victim Supermarket! More than half of what goes on in this area(and the rest of the city) never makes it into the news. It’s a hunting ground at night-and these two women were lucky. I hope they face reality and get out while they can.

NOPD says suspects in Marigny carjacking may be related to Bywater carjacking; victim frustrated with police response

New Orleans police are looking for four suspects in connection with the carjacking of two women and a 3-year-old girl in the Marigny on Saturday night.
Police also said they believe the men are connected to a carjacking in the Bywater earlier this year.
Meanwhile, one victim says she became frustrated Sunday when she could not contact police detectives to report possible leads.
The victim, who asked not to be identified for her safety, said she had been trying to reach New Orleans police and the detective assigned to her case all day Sunday. She said police were quick to respond Saturday night and spent several hours interviewing her and her sister, but that when she went to the 8th District NOPD station Sunday afternoon, an officer told her that they didn’t have anyone who could meet with her.
At a press conference Sunday night, NOPD Sgt. Ernest Luster said that the NOPD assigned night personnel to the case and they were unavailable during the day, but that they would be in touch with the victims Sunday night.
The victim said the carjackers had been using her cellphone, which was stolen Saturday along with the car.
“I really want them to track these (phone) numbers to see if they can find anything,” she said.
By 8:45 p.m. Sunday, the victim said, no NOPD detective had contacted her.

Did you read the comments? The 8th District has TWO cars on duty every shift! That’s a high crime area, so when the two cars are on a call the rest of the district is out of luck. Also the NOPD has no working color printers( or printers the cops are allowed to use) so the JPSO has to print out their color lineups! New Orleans ASPIRES to Third World status! Oh- and there are only 15 ambulances in the ENTIRE CITY! And they are breaking down constantly-the EMT’s have to make repairs themselves. So if you get shot here-don’t wait for cops and good luck getting EMS on a busy night!
FOR EVERYONE’S INFORMATION> Consider this before coming to New Orleans. This is ONE neighborhood, ONE 24 hr period. None of which was reported in local media(except the homicide.)
