"The only thing holding us together is a very tenuous social contract for a modicum of respect."

Not too mention that far too many on our side are in denial that things are as bad as they really are. I've talked with too many people who think there's still a resolution to be found by "working within the system." If both parties have turned their backs on the the Constitution and the Rule of Law, how the h*ll is working within the system going to do any good, I ask? They respond with some variation on "I just don't think it's as bad as you say," and a quick change of subject.

Claire Wolfe's alarm clock is ringing, but too many folks on our side refuse to smell the coffee.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

I daresay it’s worse than anything we are discuss. The fish rots from the head. The fact is that the Federal government is a worthless shell organization. States are still trying to “operate within the system,” but they are frequently left holding a smelly bag of crap.

Meanwhile, state and local enforcement officials are going to eventually get word that the rot is widespread. Those who care about themselves, their families, etc. will abandon ship and save their own hides. Those who don’t will stay on the force and become part of the goon squad.

Every political novel ever written has presaged this, and we are literally sitting in the middle of it. History is the most brutal of teachers, but almost no one is paying any attention. This is bad news.
