It probably had something to do with Chronic Wasting Disease, in which case the animal needed to be put down. But, a couple of DNR dudes in a pickup truck could have gotten the job done. Very bad form.
It would be the first case of a fawn having diagnosable CWD ever. It was done to prove that the state has total power.
Its not about the law being justified or even the spirt of the law. It is about proving that the law itself, and the enforcers of it, are all powerful.
For example:
1. Pass a law to prevent drinking from open ponds, justified as a public health concern.
2. Shoot man dying of thirst, for attempting to drink from open pond.
Clearly public health is not the primary concern.
I’ve no doubt but had they such an excuse, they would have given it.
BINGO!
Yeah, I was gonna say, they MAY have had a valid reason. Wisconsin seems to be ground zero with a lot of deer borne diseases.
I agree with you, one or two guys with a pickup and a dart gun would have been sufficient.
But hey, RATZ* with all that fed gov surplus military stuff just laying around, begging for a chance to be used, who could resist?

I thought Chronic Wasting Disease was something only congress was susceptible to.
