And the lawyer will get at least 40% of that settlement... I'm not generally a fan of the lawyers in these tort cases, but in this one I'd rather they get the money than the sleazy parents. That leaves the parents $300k each, or $170k after taxes. That's still far more than their loser son was worth after they ignored him for 17 years, but at least it won't change their lives or last very long.
