One thing I remember from “The Iliad” is how respectful the ancient Greeks were of a man throwing a large rock. They clearly saw it as a deadly and effective weapon.

Men with slings were extremely effective in battle.

David - Goliath.

David's sling gave quite a bit more velocity to his "smooth stone".

The Palestinian "youth" seem to have embraced this same "hobby".
