I believe its purple, I doubt its Nitrogen Tri iodide. I could see nitrating an entire pair of pants and detonating them, though you would need a powerful detonator for that.

It was a brown powder when dried.

And way too sensitive when dried

Nitrogen Triiodide has a dark brown, almost black, color.
