CMS task force recommends K-12 school for African-American males

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools may look at a new option in its effort to help African-American males succeed in the education system.

District superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison created 22 task forces to tackle a variety of issues the school district had to deal with.

One of those task force was tasked with ongoing issues dealing with African-American males in CMS.

The task force made several recommendations, including beginning a planning phase to open a K-12 African-American male school during the 2015-2016 school year. One black male student thinks that would be a great idea.

"The African American male wouldn't have to argue over females," Rising 9th grader George Whitley said. "And we can just get along and relate to each other."

Whitley also believes a new school with one gender and one race would be safer.

"We wouldn't have to worry about insults and racism." Whitley said.

Task Force Members believe black male students need to have a chance to succeed in the school system. They claim this new school would build leadership, business and academic skills for black male students.

Taxpayers say this school could teach black male students a good lesson.

"Growing up at a certain point," Taxpayer Vanessa Dixon said. "You have to stick together and know what it means to help each other."

CMS leaders are already saying this concept maybe against the law.

"If we are going to have an all black school - all male school," CMS school board chairperson Mary McCray said. "Then we must create an all female school because of Title nine." {snip}

Some people think this concept is racist and will return to segregation.

What if education segregation isn't bad?

In his book, Acting White: The Ironic Legacy of Desegregation, Liberal educator Stuart Buck argues the above point. Buck argues that the culture of academic underachievement among black students was unknown before the late 1960s. It was desegregation that destroyed thriving black schools where black faculty were role models and nurtured excellence among black students. In the most compelling chapter of Acting White,Buck describes that process and the anguished reactions of the black students, teachers, and communities that had come to depend on the rich educational and social resource in their midst. Buck draws on empirical studies that suggest a correlation between integrated schools and social disapproval of academic success among black students.

It could also be argued that non-black students would benefit because their school, minus the black students now attending the all black school, would have less fights, less classroom interruptions, and would be able to maintain a higher standard of curriculum.

What if all parties benefit?

All of these schemes ....all male or female classes or schools, all black environments, troublemaker schools, wearing uniforms, longer days, sending kids away from their communities...all of them...work for the first few years. Then, they start making exceptions and the problems seep back in.

I don't know the answer. But it sure isn't to keep trying new things and then moving on to something else.

When segregation was imposed by control-freak democrats years ago it was wrong. Not allowing voluntary segregation today is also wrong.

The democrat Establishment in the past felt they had the right to force others to their will... forcing blacks into inferior schools, the back of the bus, and excluded from jobs. It was separate and unequal at it's worst - run by democrats.

Today democrat control-freak Establishment types have chosen to force citizens into new control boxes by not allowing groups to voluntarily segregate - by encouraging victim-hood and subsiding dependence...

This would be a great opportunity for stupid black kids to get an education. Should be adopted nationally, made mandatory even. Could even raise the mean IQ of the race back to where blacks are only 20 points behind whites and they could almost catch up to the Mexicans. Of course if I were a black-hating racist I’d oppose this.

It is an interesting concept, I suppose-but since I grew up in a colorblind world-the military and on a remote ranch-I don’t see any advantage to forced segregation OR integration. Forced integration of schools by bussing didn’t help race relations any more than segregated schools did-leaving everyone alone works best-I personally don’t care what color or ethnicity someone is-it does not have anything to do with my opinion of that person as a human being.

Obviously humans will naturally “integrate” if left alone-they’ve been doing it for tens of thousands of years. We are all racially mixed, like it or not, and it is reflected in just about everyone’s DNA. If affirmative action is gotten rid of, it will shut up the race hustlers of every group-then we can all be just humans, and the rest will shake out as it should...

As far as people who don’t want to assimilate, like so many muslims and some idiotic ethnic Hispanic immigrants-if they don’t want to assimilate, they don’t get to come to America to live-period-make learning English a requirement, and no special considerations for burkas, kids’ second language, work breaks, etc-either you are an American, or you go someplace else.
