Mike McFadden on running against Al Franken
MinnPost ^ | 07/15/13 | Devin Henry

Posted on 08/08/2013 8:41:50 PM PDT by Viennacon

In his first formal interview since launching his campaign, McFadden told MinnPost where he stands on a handful of matters the Senate’s considered this year, what type of campaign he wants to run, and which senators he’d try to model himself after if he's elected to the Senate next November.

MP: Would you have supported the Senate immigration bill?

MM: First of all, the status quo is not acceptable, having 11 million illegal immigrants in this country is de facto amnesty, and that doesn’t work, so we need to find a solution. I applaud members of the Senate for trying to find that solution.

MP: The Senate has taken votes to just repeal it (Obamacare) straight up without a replacement on the other end. How would you have voted on that?

MM: I would have had to look at all the options on the table, but I would have been adamant that we need a solution. Repeal Obamacare, but here’s a solution. … The fact that there’s people with pre-existing conditions that can’t get access to health care, that have participated in the system, that have been good citizens, that’s wrong. We have to address more than just repeal.

MP: In April, the Senate voted down expanding background checks on gun purchases. Would you support that?

MM: I’m a strong believer in the Second Amendment, and the right to bear arms. It does concern me that someone that’s not allowed to buy a gun at Wal-Mart because they didn’t pass a background check is allowed to go and purchase one at a gun show. I would be open to looking at expanding background checks.

A senate update. This man is a RINO with a capital R, so don't be fooled into lending him any support in the Minnesota senate race. I don't care who's endorsed him. The man cites Bob freakin' Corker as a senator who 'gets things done'. Yeah, like driving a knife into the back of this country.

Two other candidates are announced. State senator Julianne Ortman and state rep. Jim Abeler.

Having 11 million illegal immigrants in this country is de facto amnesty,

What an idiot parroting the amnesty supporter crap. Does he even understand the difference between an amnesty and "de facto" amnesty? If he thinks these lawbreakers have "de facto" amnesty, then why give them the real thing? Right now they cannot work legally; they can not be issued a SSN or receive Medicare benefits; they can't be issued a drivers license in most states; they can't travel legally from and to this country; they can be deported; and there are a host of other things that there present status will not allow them to do compared with someone who has received amnesty.

I hope he is not the GOP candidate.

It doesn’t sound from this interview that he’s much different than Franken, maybe just slightly more sane. Very slightly.

I realized he was a Rino when I noticed he called for clamping down on gun shows: a favorite of the left.

More importantly: will Darren McFadden stay healthy this year, and was Tim Franken of Western Illinois good enough to get drafted...?

Yep, the guy sounds squishy. He’s trying hard not to offend the liberal editorial writers.
Give me a candidate who says:

“Obamacare is a disastrous abomination that may as well be called Mengelecare, and it needs to be repealed as quickly and surely as possible. Period.”

“I will do whatever it takes to ensure that the Second Amendment is not messed with. I certainly support efforts to keep guns out of the wrong hands, but efforts to keep guns out of the hands of a couple of maniacs can never come at the expense of chipping away at the rights of millions of law-abiding gun owners.”

“Seal the borders like Supermax, ensure they are sealed like Supermax, and THEN we can discuss probationary periods and green cards for illegal aliens who must first leave the country and if they return, get in the back of the line.”

I doesn’t matter anyway. MN is a socialist state so the odd’s of electing a Republican is slim to none. Franken will get re-elected as they give out too much cheese in MN to the entitled ones to keep them happy with the status quo.
