Animal welfare group vandalizes Iowa butter cow

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An animal welfare group intent on sending a message in support of veganism hid until closing time then poured red paint over the Iowa State Fair's butter cow. But the damage was quickly scraped away and visitors never knew the iconic sculpture had been damaged.

Iowans for Animal Liberation claimed responsibility for the attack in a news release emailed Sunday night, saying members hid in the cavernous Agriculture Building on Saturday night and emerged after the fair closed for the day. They then broke into a refrigerated room where the sculpted cow and other butter sculptures are displayed and poured red paint over the cow.

The words "Freedom for all" were scrawled on a display window.

Will they be banned for life like a clown in an Obama mask?

These people really need to be taught a lesson. Damaging private property should have it’s consequences. This was on private property, so they should have been shot as trespassers, had they been caught.

Let's see these pasty-faced gutless wonders pour red paint on some leather clad bikers. Or drive their hybrids into some barrios on a Saturday night and try to disrupt a cock fight.

“Let’s see these pasty-faced gutless wonders pour red paint on some leather clad bikers”

The Appalachian Trail access point is right next to the local biker dive.

During the summer, sometimes, the smelly hippies come in for ice and other sundries.

By the time they leave, they’re wall-eyed, cold sweating and pasty faced.

And we don’t even say anything.

We just...stare...and smile.

So far, not one peep about the yards of dead cow skin standing around in the place or the bloody burgers on the plates.

:)

I find this story to be a wonderfully illustrative example of the stupidity of these people.

About 1 BLOCK down the Street is the “Dairy Barn” where you can visit the Dairy herds that exhibitors have brought to Des Moines for the prestigious Fair competition.

These animals (and Dairy herds in general) are treated like no other livestock on the face of the planet. They are pampered, washed, brushed, and doted upon by their owners. They bring the little babies along to the fair and put up signs ASKING people to pet them, take photos, etc...because they want them to be docile and completely accepting of humans so that they grow up to be friendly cows.

The fact that they targeted the Butter Cow (which is created each year specifically to promote that industry)...is just hilarious. Of course, they could have “painted” some of cattle further down the Street...those that are bred to be future steak...but they would have had to deal with real animals and their very real owners (who often sleep overnight in the barns next to them).

Are they envisioning that they are going to “free” the pampered Dairy cows into the wild? That would be quite the event....the herd would probably find the nearest farm and politely ask to take up residence.

“Will they be banned for life like a clown in an Obama mask?”

Yea, that really bothered me as well. In this case, some treaching abou “domestication of animals” would help. Well, not the vandals, but some animal rights people. The cow benefits and survives because the farmer takes care of her. Of course it’s “unnatural”, explain that to the cow. However the cow survives and prospers. She likely has a cousin that will get to jump four square on the chest of a cowboy because a clown isn’t there to help him.

BTW how many rodeo clowns have used masks of Bush, Cheney or Clinton? Now, one clown just carrying on the tradition, rescuing bull riders and making people laugh has had his life ruined. Not the least of affects is his bevel oping a deep and abiding hatred for his “fellow Americans”.

Sorry for rambling on.

It is my fondest wish that they screw up someday and blunder into the Holstein bull exhibit.

Nastiest damn cattle on earth.

I’d love to see them “free” one of those big boys.

[or, alternatively, mosey out here to hillbilly heaven and pull this crap at one of our many ag fairs]

:)

I had to laugh last month when, on a bike ride, I led him up a back road to the first night of the Franklin county fair.

We parked the Harleys and wandered around the livestock tents.

We had to go through the Holstein tent to get my faves, the Jerseys and Himself remarked as we passed the spotted ladies “Wow. They’re huge. They look a lot smaller in a field.”

A lot of people don’t realize just how big a dairy cow is.

It never ceases to amaze me the irony that is lost on some people. A bunch of neo-Nazi ''environmental activists'' damage private property and then shout "Freedom for all!''. All that is except for the person(s) whose property is being destroyed. Apparently to these '' fine young cannibals'' certain people are deemed by them not to be free.

"The paint represents the blood of 11 billion animals murdered each year in slaughterhouses, egg farms, and dairies," the group said in the statement. "We intend this action to serve as a wake up call to all who continue to consume meat, dairy, eggs, leather, and all animal products: You are directly supporting suffering and misery on the largest scale the world has ever known."

Short version. Years back when I was ED at Off-Road.com, the Animal Liberation front put out a wanted poster with mu pic after following me on a Barstow to Vegas protest rife.

They couldn’t find my address, so they put my pic with my boss’s address...and he lived in Hawaii.

Needless to say I was never found. Smart they ain’t.

You know....I SHOULD have mentioned that also just two blocks down the street from where they did this resides the Iowa State Fair “Super Bull.”

This year’s winner is a Charolais, weighing in at 3,032 lbs. His name is Squirt...LOL! Wonder why they didn’t decide to really “make a statement” by painting old Squirt?

I’m still laughing about them “freeing” the Dairy cows. Seriously...they would just be completely befuddled. I am partial to the Jerseys, too. Grew up on a farm, but we had sheep and hogs...Dad had a nearly irrational hatred of all things bovine.

I did, however, have my own little flock of ducks; and I was constantly trying to sneak the bottle lambs into the house.

Something tells me she didn’t get those quads by just prancing in high heels all day.

Great physique.
