State Sen. Lee Bright officially announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate during a teleconference Tuesday.
Bright has been vocal about considering a run against two-term incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham for months.
I have looked at the record of Sen. Graham, and I feel like it's time for a change, Bright said.
During the conference, Bright touted his voting record during five years in the state senate a voting history he stated has been commended by conservative leadership and organizations. As a U.S. senator, Bright said he would continue to campaign for an individual's rights to own firearms and an anti-abortion agenda. Bright said he would fight against high taxes and a powerful IRS.
I think it's time South Carolinians have someone to represent South Carolina and the conservative values of the state, Bright said.
Bright criticized Graham for his role in creating the immigration reform bill currently in Congress by saying it amounts to amnesty and would create a permanent underclass. He also said the incumbent was taking advice from Democrats on how to win Republican elections.
Bright also accused Graham of community organizing for the Muslim Brotherhood, during his recent trip to Egypt, instead of being at home working on the problems of his constituents.

A quote by him:
wives should forsake resistance to their husbands authority and grow in willing, joyful submission to their husbands leadership.
He lost the election right there.
Lee Bright is the candidate with a conservative record.
He has shown himself to be a true conservative in the Legislature.
The other candidates talk a good game, but have never done anything of substance.
Even in South Carolina
even WITH Ron Paul’s endorsement
A religious kook cannot win a general election
Dear warchild9 from North Carolina,
That quote you attributed is not found in this article. Your source please.
thinkprogress.org
A hostile—but truthful—source. He said it.
That sort of quote is right out of kook tevee.
And I’m not taking sides, since I’m from out of state and wish my cousins to the south only the best.
I never took a stand on what he said. The wording IS right out of religious kookdom, and that will guarantee he goes nowhere, his other work notwithstanding.
Don’t read your emotions into a third-person quote. It undermines your arguments.
He can’t win. That’s the truth. SC is right-of-center as a state, not >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> that far right.
Not enough to get this guy winning a GENERAL election.
By definition, that includes everybody. Hm?
I have no dog in this fight, but ThinkProgress? A credible, truthful site? You’re spoofing us, right?
While I’m sure he’ll have to distance himself from this in some way, he didn’t actually say it. The origin is that he’s on the “Board of Visitors” of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. They, in turn, subscribe to the “Danvers Statement,” a statement of belief on the roles of men and women that was issued by a group of evangelical leaders in 1989. That’s where the quote comes from.
That war on women tactic is still one that will be used against Conservatives in spite of filthy filtner.
Thank you for this very informative post.
As for me and my house, we are unashamedly 'religious kooks'! Go South Carolina. Primary Linda.
I’ve been sending information on Bright, and Mace to a friend in South Carolina, and this morning asked his opinion. He said he gets nothing in the local news about either of them, and relies on what I send him from FR, and he forwards that on to others he knows in S.C.
Any S.C. Freeper comments on that would be welcomed.
“You think so; many South Carolina Christians disagree with your notion.”
Dont try to be cute and think it wont be a factor. In SC that type of quote may be a nothing thing, but the Dems will get hold of it and make it a issue in every race in the nation.
Many of us are wary of candidates that shoot off awkward stuff at the most inopportune times and toss the election.
back the quote up please....
He is running on a classic liberty tea party economic growth agenda. Take your think progress propoganda to DU or HuffPo......
