Republican leaders in Congress told Nixon they weren’t going to protect him. Nixon saw the writing on the wall. Back then, at least one party had respect for the rule of law.

And where did that get the Republicans? Democrats rally around their politicians, they did with Clinton, and he got re-elected.

Clinton was impeached on 1998-12-19, during his second term.

However, I don’t believe that stooping to the Democrat’s level is the answer.
