Carletta Nicholson of Altoona, an African-American and a Muslim, said she worked at the Middle School from 2009 through the 2012 school year, and during that time, she charges, she was subjected to insults on a daily basis, being called "Osama Mama," "a Muslim terrorist," "crack baby," "Killadelphia," "black people brought drugs to Altoona," "all blacks are on welfare," and a great many other comments.

Nicholson is asking U.S. District Judge Kim Gibson in Johnstown to appoint a "civil rights monitor, master or trustee over the defendants in order to assure that defendants do not discriminate in the future."
She is seeking back pay, punitive damages and an order directing an end to racial discrimination by the school district and her employer.
Nicholson is suing under the Civil Rights Act of 1866, Title VII of the civil Rights Act of 1967, The Americans With Disabilities Act, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, and a section of federal civil rights law barring retaliation. .

She was forced to stop wearing her Muslim head covering, called a Kimar, because students would threaten to pull it off her head.
She was also denied her request to pray in an empty room and stated she was embarrassed to pray in front of others "because of the pervasively hostile environment toward her as a Muslim."

Who is the fool to hire this person in the first place?
Altoona is my hometown; didn’t know this case was going on. But I’m not surprised that there is tension.
When I was growing up the area was about 1% black; maybe less. Over the last 15 or 20 years, after I had relocated, there was apparently a surge in the minority population. I was told various explanations as to why; one account was the location of a drug rehab center in an adjacent area. Many people came from cities such as Philadelphia to “dry out,” then discovered that it was easy to get on welfare and subsidised housing in a smaller community and so invited their relatives and friends to join them.
Then I read that housing offices in NJ were flooded with applicants but had no available units, so they were actually referring some of their clients to cities in PA such as Altoona. Suddenly, the local housing authorities were overwhelmed with out-of-state applications. They eventually had to change the rules to give priority to current residents.
In either case, I understand the crime rates have indeed gone up, especially with regard to drug offences. Not that any of that excuses racial slurs or insults that may have been hurled at this woman, if her account is true.

Thus ends my interest in this person or her problems. I am an American. Not a German/American, or a Italian/American, or a Martian/American. An American. Period. This women was not born in Africa. She likely has never been to Africa nor will she ever go to Africa and live there for any length of time.

Yeah probably did not have anything to do with the overwhelmingly pervasive hostile hatred and desire to kill all Americans by muslims............
What happened was the State put two halh way houses in Altoona in the late Eighties and it has been down hill since. This is typical liberal relocation to suburban areas to destroy the good neighbor hoods. Follow the time lines on how crime rates evolved since the late eighties.
I see a well-funded (taxpayer-funded) retirement plan in her future.
Reading the article - it sounds like she couldn’t control here own class.
So she sues the school district (really - the taxpayers).
Really? So who was making these comments? The liberal, public school teachers? No! Not possible!

Amazing, wasn’t allowed to pray in am empty room! School children are not allowed to pray in schools so what is her complaint. Only if you are not a Christian can you have rights.

You can probably add another disability. Bad attitude. The BM population in the small town in which I live has a chip on their shoulder, for the most part.
