Because the probability of an RPG taking out fixed wing aircraft is very small. In the big scheme of things MANPADS systems are cheap and give you more bang for you buck. I would be very interested to know if the MANPADS in question are American made Stingers, or Soviet/Russian SA series launchers.

The whistle-blower lawyer is probably a great guy, and he is only doing his job. But it’s clear to me he’s using the recent drama of the Embassy closures in order to call further attention on the question of the missiles, the better to defined his client, who has been horribly wronged.
Naturally I share his perception that MANY more people need to know about these missiles and that his client should be let off scot-free and hailed as the hero he really is.
SAM’s are ineffective as building-destoyers —the targeting is different, the optics and guidance are different from those 2 missile classes. If there is a SAM that can reliably target fixed ground point-targets, then enlighten me.
These MANPADS would be best employed against helicopters evacuating or supplying Embassies.
The number of missles covertly handled at the Bengazi Annex is far higher than 400.
The number does sound high (imagine the reaction if US LEO’s got reports that Tea Partiers had just 20 of them), but 400 is a number the Administration MIGHT conceed but only out of an effort to put presstitutes off the scent of the far more Horrible Truth...

I saw Obama fly over me last week when he left Woodland Hills for Camp Pendleton. I was on the freeway, looked up and counted 7 big Chinook (sic) choppers. U prolly heard the story about Egyptian insurgents firing a HELLFIRE missile at a building --there was a photo featuring the tailfin assembly.
I don't particularly doubt they fired SOMETHING, hey probably a missile, but....I would be very surprised if it had been a hellfire, as ground-based launching platforms for it are expensive and rather new (most are still prototypes).
My money would be against the missile having been a US-supplied Hellfire.
