Didn’t we already try, and then abandon, high-density ‘projects’, like ? Green in Chicago?

Yeah, and China has tried high density live/work projects that have provoked suicides. Who wouldn't want to live and work in the same building day in and day out? </sarc>

Yes it is. We had a group called save Bay Meadows and they were trying to get a ballot initiative to let the residents decide if they wanted to tear down the track and build Bay meadows Phase 2 they already built Phase one under the guise people would take the train but it was a fail because it was not close enough to the train tracks. Anyway people were signing the petition the City Council meanwhile sent out fliers to people saying if they thought they had signed the petiion in error they could have their names removed resulting in not enough names to get it on the ballot. They ripped out the police station at the end of my street and that is where the 3 new builings are going this is in addition to the Bay Meadows Phase 2 development which is about 1/2 mile from me. They are really working to get people out of there cars here and no one is paying attention.
