ICBMs don’t obtain a normal space orbit, they use retro-rockets to “deorbit” to reach their target.

Meaning, they go into space but don’t orbit like a satellite, they come back down. You would have to use all kinds of thrusters to pinpoint where you wanted it to come down at.

i thought the whole point of being a ballistic missile was it went up and then came down in a ballistic arc... i'm no rocket scientist, but i never thought you needed retro rockets to slow one down

i still learn something new everyday, thx
