Despite the deaths of more than 500 Muslim Brotherhood supporters and the resulting retaliation against Christian targets nationwide, Egypt's Christian community stands with yesterday's decision by the military-backed transitional government to break-up the pro-Morsi sit-ins.
"If a peaceful sit-in took place in Times Square and locked down the city, how long would it take American authorities to disperse it?" said Ramez Atallah, head of the Egyptian Bible Society. "The government spent six weeks trying to solve this crisis, and finally used force. What were the alternatives?"
Youssef Sidhom, editor-in-chief of Coptic newspaper Watani, explained why one alternativeto simply allow the protests to continue indefinitelywas not a better choice.
"If it had been a peaceful protest, we should leave it there. Have the army encircle it to prevent more weapons from entering, and wait for their morale to falter," he said. "But the sit-in surrounded 20 to 30 high-rise apartment buildings, and the people had to submit to daily checks by the Muslim Brotherhood simply to go in and out of their neighborhood.

We should follow suit to rid our scourge...
Unfortunately sentiment will shift again. Just this morning the BBC showed interviews with people on the pro government side complaining about the killing of muslims and countrymen.
I’ve also got questions about why the Egyptian military is suddenly helpless to protect the Christians.
As far as the Christians go,neither side will tolerate them in the end, but the anti-Morsi side seems more tolerant right now because they want the same thing the Christians do—the MB radicals out. Can anybody see a possible similar senario here in the USA?
They will use them as pawns, Stand by and let the MB slaughter a bunch, then drop the hammer justified in their ‘protecting’ the remainder from the brutal MB attacks.
PR for days.
If you have been to Egypt you know it is/was a pretty diverse group of people and Christians were Egyptians too
Everyone was focused on making a living and everyone pretty much got along except in the fundamentalist havens in upper Egypt and some other communities
the higher income and better educated people in the military and civil service and business community, even muslims, have no issue with their Christian neighbors
They are not the problem- The radical islamites are the problem
They are NOT the majority (some are not even Egyptian) but the MB as “community organizers” of the poor (sound familiar)- once elected into office - began a vendetta against those who opposed them in the past
They set out with a vengeance to radicalize and cleanse Egypt and try to fundamentally transform Egypt into an Islamic state
No wonder ape-man Morsi was so warmly welcomed by Iran on one of his first visits abroad
We have a pizzpoor excuse for a potus and SecState but the best we can hope is for the USA to stay out of it and let the Egytian military and police restore civil order and then start again to build a post Mubarak govt
I am wondering when the New Government will declare the Brotherhood a terorist organization and members as fugitives from justice.
Waiting on word to begin leaking out about 0bama running weapons out us U.S. Egyptian embassy to Muzzie Brotherhood....
Yes, I am aware of the things you have said about Egypt. The fact is that the Christians have had their homes and churches razed and burned and have been murdered under the Morsi-MB regime. The military backed government has also been appeasing the MB and saying they can stay and “be a part of” the new government. Whatever government they will end up with will never return to the former ways, and there is a very small percentage of Christians living in Egypt. More and more Egypt, like all the other ME countries surrounding Israel, are nationalistic in their Islamism and hate the Jews. They see the Christians as Jew friendly and enemies of Islam. Rightly so, we claim the same God as our Father, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
“The Coptic Orthodox Pope, HH Tawadrous II made a statement about the attacks on churches this week, saying that this had been expected and, as Egyptians and Christians, we are considering our church buildings as a sacrifice to be made for our beloved Egypt.
“Some Muslims went to protect churches and that, in return, many Christians then sent messages to their fellow Muslim citizens saying, buildings can be rebuilt again, but you are priceless, so stay safe, and don’t worry about the churches. And the Egyptian government also announced today that the State would take the financial responsibility for the rebuilding of damaged churches.”
Overwhelmingly, the public in Egypt supports what the army is doing (even though that’s not the way the western press is reporting it)
Despite? Despite? Who writes this cr*p? The Muslim Brotherhood is burning dozens of churches down, kidnapping and raping Christian girls, "marrying" them off to Muslims to be Muslim. And the Brotherhood is murdering Christians wherever they can find them.
So, Egypt's Christians are supposed to do what, when 500 of the Brothers are killed. No one knows exactly how many were killed or will be killed. The author ignores the over 100 police who have been killed and the unknown number of Christians and anti-Morsi Egyptians killed.
Why focus only on the Muslim Brotherhood and the "despite"? What the heck? Stupidity? Ignorance? Malice?
Just check out his record of accomplishment (NOT) in stopping or even slowing down nuc proliferation in North Korea Iran Iraq (probably) and even Libya
All el Baradei has to offer Egyptians is a non-uniformed figure for their new national currency
