I just received my latest copy of Biblical Archaeology Review Magazine, a sort of heady academic excursion into sometimes obscure controversies concerning the ancient Near East. [BAR was instrumental in freeing up the Dead Sea Scrolls half-century logjam.]

Imagine my surprise to find an article comparing King David and Bill Clinton! The article says that David was a risk-taker, occasionally overzealous with the opposite sex - '... a man-god who, despite his flaws, became a great leader of his people.' There was a picture of Clinton scowling to reinforce the silly comparison.

As I have repeatedly pointed out recently, this is evidence of Stalinism insidiously pervading our whole society [to wit lately that hapless rodeo clown.] The American Stalinists have done to Egypt just what they hope to do to America.

Anyone who knows and loves the great narrative histories of the Bible will tremble for what David would actually do if confronted with blather like that. He did not respond moderately to people attempting flattery by slighting those to whom he owed honor. He did respond with kingly authority.
