Friday morning, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange participated in an online chat session hosted by Campus Reform, in which he offered up some special praise for conservatives Matt Drudge and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). Assange applauded The Drudge Report for disrupting the self-censorship of the establishment press and held up Paul as one of the most principled members of the U.S. Congress.
Responding to questions from Campus Reform editor-in-chief Josiah Ryan, Assange began by calling Drudge a news media innovator who has been on the rise since the Monica Lewinsky scandal. It is as a result of the self-censorship of the establishment press in the United States that gave Matt Drudge such a platform, Assange said, and so of course he should be applauded for breaking a lot of that censorship.
He also noted that social media has supplanted much of what Drudge is known for, which he described as collecting interesting rumors that looked like they might be true and publishing them. Assange said he only agrees with some of Drudges political opinions.
I am a big admirer of Ron Paul and Rand Paul for their very principled positions in the U.S. Congress on a number of issues, Assange said, saying they have been some of his strongest supporters when it comes to attacks on WikiLeaks. He called the position of the libertarian Republican right an interesting phenomenon. He pointed out that they principle of non-violence could include being against both drone warfare and abortion.

I don’t think what he did was right, but just what sort of government would I be defending by going after this guy?
If I thought this was still my government, I might consider him a foe but it’s obvious now that conservatives and libertarians are considered non-persons by this government.
admin, I’m out of my depth. Please save me,.
Kill em. That solves everything.
Both of you back off, OK?
LOL, ok.
Surprise compliments for Drudge from Julian Assange? Hmmm,,, I think that goes under the category of “Buttering Your Bread”. Julian knows who the American power brokers are in the new media. He has something to say or will have something to say very soon, and wants to pave a smooth and silken path for his highly flammable ideas yet to be heard.
Julian is probably needing some notoriety or mass attention of some kind. It gets lonesome being a world famous hide-away rebel when the pursuit is stopped or seen as old news.
It would not surprise me if Julian reached out to genuine locked up criminals in this country, as he understands our American ambivalence on criminals and anti-heroes, meaning someone like (Gasp!) Bernie Madhoff, who I suspect is still rather proud of the fakery he carried on for all those many years.
Has Rand Paul come down on the side of the Islamic Brotherhood in Egypt? He opposes aid to the military, right? Is that based on the law prohibiting such aid when a coup has occurred, or because he opposes the military in principle?
So, absolutely nothing, not a single illegal thing this government does should be brought to light, no matter the means.
I’m sure some FReepers will now assure us that this means Drudge and Rand Paul are fake conservatives.
Peally? you are validating the narcissist’s paranoia.

This is fun.
This entire thread is stupid. Finally! A place Sirius can feel at home in.
I think Assange was being serious and genuine in his compliments of Drudge and Paul, and seeks nothing in return.
Think of who Assange is and what he did...
Assange believes that the government and media hide valuable truths, and those truths should be made available to the American public. Sounds a lot like Drudge.
Assange puts the principle of disclosure first and foremost. You can disagree with Rand Paul’s positions, but it’s hard to argue that he’s not principled. Assange likely admires a fellow deeply principled person in a world of politics where most people sell out their principles.
There also was another little matter which you will probably aware of, but I will mention it. One group of sympathizers were said to have lost 200,000 pounds bail money, when Assange skipped his appearance in court. What was detailed and substantiated was the second support group that plead before the courts for reduced penalties. Amazing, I did not know this could be done. The 140,000 pounds was reduced to 90,000 pounds.
One person who had his bail money reduced to 12,000 pounds was a Captain Vaughan Smith, who hosted Assange at his luxury estate. I remember one surety moaning on the television, that he had "borrowed the bail money" and was now in debt.
Assange is all about Assange.
V e r y Interesting! Self-Absorbed figures like Assange are unaccustomed to being responsible for little details such as one of their supporters losing most of his life savings. Assange demands that his needs be met, by whatever means. Others are left to mop up the results. If your fortune is lost, Oh Well,,consider it your ‘donation to the righteous cause of rebellion’.
