Huh? You can find parallels for everything in 1984 in modern day USSA. Nothing in the book is too difficult to imagine.

Ive read 1984 twice, and I actually think the movie Brazil is a lot more realistic. "Brazil" is a dark comedy version of "1984". It carries many of the same threads as the book; an oppressive central government, the idyllic love interest, and the eventual capture, torture, and destruction of the main character.
