Bambi Meets Godzilla In The Middle East (Obama is no Bambi!)
American Interest ^ | Aug 18, 2013 | Walter Russell Mead

Posted on 08/18/2013 6:36:14 PM PDT by Innovative

President Obama has had a rude awakening in the Middle East. The region he thought existed was an illusion built on American progressive assumptions about the way the world works. In the dream Middle East, democracy at least of a sort was just around the corner. Moderate Islamists would engage with the democratic process, and the experience would lead them to ever more moderate behavior. If America got itself on the “right side of history,” and supported this hopeful development, both America’s values and its interests would be served. Our relationships with the peoples of the Middle East would improve as they saw Washington supporting the emergence of democracy in the region, and Al Qaeda and the other violent groups would lose influence as moderate Islamist parties guided their countries to prosperity and democracy.

Nobody is that naïve, least of all Obama.

And to paraphrase Sherlock Holmes, after you eliminated all other possibilities the only one left must be the right one, however implausible it seems.

I'll leave it up to you to figure it out, I am betting it won't be difficult.

I believe rank-and-file Dems are. Talking to them is worse than talking to a blank wall. Hit them with facts and they'll either deny or change the subject (or throw a straw man argument, one of their favorite tactics). Leadership Dems consider them useful idiots.

The Jerusalem post has in its breaking news scroll that Saudi Arabia warned the West not to interfere with the Egyptian crackdown of the Muslim Brotherhood. Obummer will probably try some sneaky stuff behind the scenes.

Dear John (Nixon sent me to Cambodia)Kerry,

Look at Egypt. Look at the Bruthas. Now look at Hamas. Finally look at Israel.

Figured it out yet?

Regards,

Bibi

I wish someone would do an expose on the people that are close to BO that are members of the MB.

The region [Obama] thought existed was an illusion built on American progressive assumptions about the way the world works. In the dream Middle East, democracy at least of a sort was just around the corner. Moderate Islamists would engage with the democratic process, and the experience would lead them to ever more moderate behavior. If America got itself on the “right side of history,” and supported this hopeful development, both America’s values and its interests would be served.

The author is, of course, assuming something which isn't necessarily true.

Did Obama think he was engaging in support of "moderate Islam" in Egypt (and Libya...and Syria)? Or is he willfully supporting the Muslim Brotherhood -- and the radical Islam the group favors and promotes?

Strikes me that the author is starting from the wrong premise altogether.

In other words, Obama's Middle East policy is designed to produce the worst possible outcome -- for the Middle East...and for America.

Just did a quick search and came upon an article in the respected conservative publication Human Events, from Feb 8, 2011 — with names and dates:

The equation is far too complex for US Policy makers. Democracy? in Egypt? Now?

Look at the entire Arab/Islamic world. What is their BEST example of Democracy?

Turkey

Turkey is now controlled by the MB, why are they still in NATO? Erdogan destroyed the upper eschelons of their military. He PURGED (like Stalin) the entire Army.

THAT is our best example of Democracy in the Islamic world and it is very poor.

Any sane person can see that Egypt is fighting the Islamic surge from Obama’s Arab Spring. We need to suppor the army there, it is our only ray of hope in fighting Iran, Hizbollah, Islamic Jihad, the MB and a whole, vast army of raghead nutcases.

IF the US cuts off aid (which they won’t) the US looses Egypt to Russia all over again, thus reversing all the gains made in that region since 1973.

The average Obama supporter simply decides what he will claim to believe and then disregards anything that conflicts with it and accepts whatever supports that belief without question regardless of source. There is zero point in trying to talk with them, it is a very rare Obama zombie who is actually capable of reexamining his basic premises. Generally speaking you are better off talking to a brick since the brick will not come back with any absurdities.
