Chatsworths Braxton Bates isnt old enough to drive, but he is old enough to fire a gun.
And he does it quite well.
Braxton, 12, a sixth-grader at Woodlawn Elementary School, won the Georgia Outdoor News pellet rifle competition, the Truck Buck Shootout, which was held Aug. 3-4 at the Gwinnett Center. His prize for winning was a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 from John Megel Chevrolet in Dawsonville.
Thats going to take a huge burden off us, said Brad Bates, Braxtons father. Were going to hold it for him, and we told him were going to keep low mileage on it and use it a little but save it for him when he becomes of driving age.
In Georgia, you must be at least 15 years old to obtain a drivers permit. You must be at least 16 years old and have held a permit for at least one year before earning a provisional drivers license.
This isnt the first sign of the younger Bates skill at hitting his mark other competitions have also shown his superb aim. He was on the Woodlawn archery team, which is coached by his father, that captured the National Archery In the Schools Program (NASP) World Championships in St. Louis, Mo., in June. Braxton scored a 287 out of 300 possible points to finish third individually in the elementary school division.

For cryin’ out loud!
Couldn’t they they tell us a bit about the pellet gun he used?
I’m looking for reliable pest control, in the pellet gun category.
a .410 would work for ‘pests’..............
An inexpensive 22 lr would be better used for that. The competition guns are quite pricey some use special co2 cylinders others are quite difficult to cock. The competition air rifles are a specialty item and like pampering and a padded life not rattling around behind the seat in ones pickup
How big is yer pests-es?
Pellets might not be enough iffin’ y’all gets a woodchuck or muskrat in the house.
Ol’ Cletus has driven off a coon from his yard usin’ mines pellet gun (Daisy 1911-frame copy) but there weren’t no penny-tration on his thick-ass hide.
Someone does make a rabbit-dart load that might hep.
My old one was packed away for 30 years. When my father died, I found it while digging through stuff. It wouldn't pump air, so I oiled it up REALLY good. Still wouldn't work, so I figured it needed new seals, and put it back and added it to my to-do-someday list.
When we cleaned out the estate 15 years later, I found it again. But now it pumped up and worked great! Over time, all that oil soaked into the leather seals and made them function again. Now my niece's little boy has a great bb gun and a good story about the importance of oil.
I have a few spring air guns and they are FUN!
My favorite is a RWS Mod 54, it is amazing!
Was allowed to shoot indoors at 100 yards, took a bit to zero at that distance, very accurate and consistent.
Punching paper and soda cans fun, fun, fun at 100 yds!
Just our of curiosity, what kind of building as rooms 300 feet long and that you're allowed to shoot in them?

I was paired with Tim just this past weekend in the Western States regionals Field Target competition, and I shoot one of his guns in competition.
Gotta want to shuck $2500 for the rifle though, and that’s without the scope. Might be a bit steep for pest control:-)
Indoor basketball courts, a whole bunch of them.
They are divided by curtains that can be drawn back.
Also have been in indoor soccer pitch.

The worst shot in the state was taught by a firearms instructor whose instructions were, “Ready. Fire. Aim!”
Warehouses are 300’ long and more. Allowed to shoot in them? Pellet guns, yeah probably.
Our Gamo Varminter is great for pests. The raptor pellet is as powerful as a .22 and quieter.
Blucore shooting range.
Lakewood CO
I’m sure that they’ll let you shoot a pellet gun inside there
That place hosts JapanFest every year and the archers use their longbows for demonstrations :-)
